The company address on some of the payroll forms submitted by my current accountants is wrong (they had put our old company address). When I told them they said it doesn't matter as HMRC looks at Companies House for the correct address and will link it to whatever address is listed there. I did phone the VAT, CT and PAYE/NI to tell them of the new address but I am worried they may still have the old address because of the accountants mistake.

Are the accountants correct in stating that the company address will always be considered the one at Companies House by HMRC?

Also, at present my current accountants submit all my payroll forms for me. I asked them to correct a mistake and they are being very hesitant in sending me a copy of the amended form that they say they have resubmitted. Is it possible for me to get access via the HMRC online filing system to see what my accountants have submitted and if I register for this, does it mean that my accountants will no longer be able to access/file on my behalf (i.e can both an agent (accountants) and individuals (myself) have access to online filing at the same time?)

Suggest you use this link:-

http://search2.hmrc.gov.uk/kbroker/hmrc/locator/locator.jsp?type=2

Make sure you have obtained these details from your accountants, as it appears that you may not possess them already:

1) Employer Reference eg 123/AB45678
or,
2) the three-digit (tax) office code

Then once you have the postal address of Your Co's HMRC PAYE office, write to them to confirm your Co's correct address.

However, if you have on-line access to your Co's HMRC PAYE portal, go to this link :-

https://online.hmrc.gov.uk/login?GAREASONCODE=-1&GARESOURCEID=PayeAorEAll&GAURI=https://online.hmrc.gov.uk/paye/&Reason=-1&APPID=PayeAorEAll&URI=https://online.hmrc.gov.uk/paye/

input your "user ID" (mine has 12 digits - numbers and capital letters),

then your password (that was agreed @ setup time).

Next, click on "About your organisation" (found in the PAYE "ladder" on the left-hand side of the web page). You will find your Co's name and address under "About your organisation".

If you cannot do any of the above, then ask your accountant's for a very recent postal communication from HMRC PAYE, which should bear the CORRECT address of your Company.

Good luck.

Are these the same accountants that "made quite a big error and lots of little errors in the accounting on various year end payroll forms" (your post of 13 August)?

Not much to add to Dick's suggestions except that if you're proposing to change accountants you could apply for a new user ID and password yourself and take it from there.

The Companies House address is the registered office and not necessarily the same as its day to day trading address. HMRC are unlikely to use this address unless they had post returned undelivered. If you've phoned the three departments quoted, I'm not sure of the problem at present.

You never did say why you couldn't make an appointment to see the accountants to resolve your various issues.
