I'm looking for a small database to be built for us, not too complex, just linking information to produce records, files and reports etc. May be a how long is a piece of string question, but how much should I expect to pay for it?

Is it one for customer records, or just products etc?
It's pretty simple to knock up a very very basic database in access. E-Mail me or PM the full requirements if you like.

Hi
It is kind of a piece of string questions, how many different sets of information do you want to store/link (i.e customers, products, sales etc)?
Many Thanks

Hi Maria
It's difficult to price it as every database is different.
You should think about whether you need to have any reports or letters created from the database, or whether you are planning on performing your own mail merges, and also if you require any interaction between the database and other office applications like Word/Excel.
It is also worth thinking ahead as to any future use of the database, or future expansion if you intend to add more data later, or if you have any business growth plans that will need to be supported by the database.
I am happy to contact you to discuss your requirements further, please PM me if you need any further help.

And there is the main issue, also make sure that it can integrate with any software that you intend to use for accounting, else it will potentially get very messy.
And no don't contact me to design it for you, I hate having to do stuff like that.:p

You say you want an Access database and you may be right.
But first - if you have not already done so - is to step back and ask what are you try to achieve - what is the objective of the project.
When doing this also try to think how you may extend it in the medium and even more pencilled in the longer term as this can affect the initial design and hence specification.
It may be that something is available off the shelf that will do what you want and allow a large degree of customisation but with which you will end up with a far better front end and product.
That said when I was looking at this type of thing I realised what I needed was guess what - a database program! But if you have simple requirements then an off the shelf may easily cover you.
So what is it you are trying to do?
Is there a max spend you have in your head?
You may not get much at £30 - £200 an hour!

Young lady has a clothes shop.. don't take a rocket scientist to figure out what is needed from her original post. ..

lol :D
Not unbelieveable at all.
As an IT professional, I'd want to deliver a database that was perfect for my customer. To deliver a quality end product, you have to understand the requirements correctly.
I think we would need a little more information with regards to what was to be held on the database, what are we modeling, who will use the db?
How will the data be inputted into the database? Do you need the DB to interface with your existing website system?
PS. I'm not pitching for work at all. I'm busy working on my own system :p

Thanks guys, as it turns out Curly has let me in on the fact we have Sage on the PC and I've had a look and I think I can probably use that really... don't know what the mystery is surrounding Sage, it looks quite easy.

I asked originally for it to "produce records, files and reports etc" which I can do in Sage. It was just tidying things up like the invoices etc really and linking them to sales (hopefully).I dont need one for the customers really as we use Mailchimp for our campaigns and that holds pretty much as much info as I want to keep about them.

if you are interested we had a company do the work for us and customised it to what we needed, they just charge us a user licence for it and develop/support as needed
let me know if you need me to put you in touch
regards
Buster

Lol.
How often have you heard people say they want something to just do this simple job of a bit of this and that with no idea what is involved or what they are really after.
Please do not become a rocket scientist.
Oh we just need something to go up into the air.

LOL (its seems obligatory)
I do know whats involved, I've messed about with Access myself in the past and I don't think its rocket science, I just have too much to do to start on it mysef, I really did know what I was after, I just didnt realise we had Sage on our PC (my husband is a Chartered Accountant) and having never looked at Sage before, I didn't realise it did what I wanted it to.
