View Full Version : Google indexing puzzle

Being more informed (though not necessarily any wiser) following my last post about link building which got a wide variety of responses (!), I am spending a little (but too much) time trying to build some links for my site with articles and through directories. Because it's worked for one of my clients, I've tried My Article Network, and have had 40 published. However, I've only got 3 links from this (according to backlinkwatch.com). The first batch of articles was on 22 July - am I just impatient, or should I expect more by now? Particularly puzzling is the report on another back link check site which tells me I have:

Google 1 indexed link and 18 indexed websites
Yahoo 69 indexed links and 64 indexed websites

Total backlinks 69 from 20 domains. Why are Google and Yahoo so different, and how can I have 64 indexed websites if there are only 20 domains linking to my site?

All comments gratefully received, thank you

Google only shows links it deems to be important, whereas Yahoo tends to show most if not all the links.

backlinks showing up have to be indexed before they show as links. so in short, it depends what sort of article sites you submitted to. Ezine will show up pretty much right away, as will goarticles, article alley etc.

With regard the second point. some backlink systems use noise as an indicator, so if your site is mentioned on a site, but not linked, it will show up. There is some debate as to whether or not google are using 'noise' as an indicator into the ranking algorithm.

Personally I think it makes sense to do this, as if people are talking about you in a positive way, then you should be respected. (as long as the site talking is respected)

Its the same for everyone.Google is notoriously harsh when assessing the quality of a link.I guess this is one of the reasons why it is so popular today.
