Looking to have a website designed which will provide information on cars and display this info in a fairly interesting and different way. Website is likely to cost 5k (only got 1 quote for now) plus another 2-3k for content management system, branding, logo design and 3 monts seo.

The site will draw income from affiliate marketing in the first instance- hopefully car sales, car leasing, car insurance and loans. From reading lots of threads this seems to be recommedd as far easier to set up than banner cpm/cpc advertising. I have forecast that, based on 3k hits per month, the website could would draw about 1,650 pounds a year from affiliates. If i could just do this for a few years it would help reduce the loss (worst case?) and therefore, the risk of investing 8k I am currently worrying about.

But the plan is that once traffic becomes established, say 4-6k hits per month i can expand into cpm/cpc advertising (small fry to start with obviously) and start to make the revenue creation more efficient.

Probably havent given you much to go on, but does this plan for generating the income sound ok. The problem is that until I have a website built, I cant really approach merchants etc..

thanks in advance :)

Hi,

I think the plan sounds fine but what about the marketing of the site - how are you going to get people there in the first place?

There are companies that you can sell adspace to and they then sell it for you - that may be a route you want to consider as well.

Hi

Banner advertising has dipped considerably at the moment, but we have managed to increase revenue for clients by having sponsored areas instead. Similar to the sponsors you see at the start of certain programs or films. We've found that coming up with clever ways to introduce brands to the website visitor gets advertisers excited. I won't go in to too much detail as it is quite industry specific. But please get in contact.

If you were interested in using us to build the site, we build every thing bespoke. This means the website and systems are built to suit you, how you work and to be perfect for your business. It also means anything is possible!

Please give me a shout. My direct mobile number is coming over on the PM.

thanks for the replys and pm's.

I do need to get another quote to get best vale but I have got the current one from a company that have done sites for multi nationals and sites which to my mind look about as good as it gets.

I need to get good traffic to make this worthwhile (want this to be a full time venture in 5 years time) and think I will have some fairly unique content, so i want the site to be top notch when it comes to design. I also think the quality of design is crucial for the niche the site is targeted at.

The forecasting in the business plan is so difficult given that there are so many variables and it is not like a high street shop where you can at least rely on footfall for traffic. Guess that with all of these things its what you make of it - I have read on affiliate sites of people making 50 quid a month with a one page site quite easily and others making 180k a month- somewhere in between should do me!

Sounds really exciting.

If you like the chosen agency to have good previous experience, we are currently working with Amnesty International, Exchange and Mart, Bounty (the paper towels not the chocolate) and TelevisionX. Previously have done projects for HSBC, Penguin Books, Bauer Media (They do FHM Grazia and many more) and am currently pitching for work from British Aerospace and a project run by Olympics 2012.
