Although I dont really rate it, I had to let out a little squeal when I saw the Alexa Bot had visited my site.

As an additional suggestion, install the Alexa toolbar and make your site your homepage. The link is at the bottom of the Alexa listing for your site.

This will increase your rank on Alexa, as it's based on how often toolbar users look at your site.

See I'm voting for it now (sort of), you could return the favour by looking at our site once you have the toolbar installed.

I hadn't heard of Alexa before this post, so please could someone tell me why it is good to be on it? I have followed Claire's post and seem to have been on there for a while!

If I'm honest I dont really know if thats good or not! LOL. If I'm right in thinking thats only a rank of people who have an Alexa toolbar and not the entire internet, otherwise I would be impressed!

Alexa ranks web site traffic based on visitors with the Alexa toolbar.

It doesn't really mean much (particularly with sites outside the top 100k, where 1 or 2 visitors with the toolbar can change your rank dramatically).

Sites with a high number of web masters visiting also rank very highly.

But its nice to see how your doing compared to your competition, so as a guide comparing like with like its very good.

Anyway to get an estimate of actual traffic from alexa rank, try this:
