Word template required

We are looking at doing a small A5 bookfold magazine in word to deliver in our village. It will be a monthly thing with news about the village and a whats on section etc. Probably only 10-20 pages in total.

Does anyone have a word template I could pinch to get me started?

I'm not too sure exactly what you are doing in magazine terms, but I can almost always recommend that you don't use Word for anything other than a letter if it's going to print.

How pages were you envisaging? Is it in colour?

I only wanted to use word as I know how to use it! I dont know what else you would recommend but it is a community mag so we dont have any funding to put into it as the advertising covers the printing and thats all.

Probably about 10-20 pages?

Hi Claire,

MS Publisher would be better if you have it - there are booklet templates included.

You can set up a booklet type page layout in Word, but getting them to print in the right order (especially if you want duplex) is a pain. If you do decide to use Word, I would suggest putting everything inside tables - it will make it easier to line up and format.

Artwork must be prepared to meet print guidelines before sending it off to a printing company.

Colour : CMYK (not RGB)
Bleed : crop area for borderless printing.
DPI : print resolution - dots per inch

Publisher isn't suitable if you are having the booklet professionally printed (nor is Word) - I was assuming you were going to print it our yourself on a PC printer.

Some printers do accept publisher but not come across one that takes a word document for this sort of project!

Not that I'm trying to drum up business (but PM me if you'd like more info;)) but it would be easier to have a pro put the booklet together. They will have experience in doing the sort of thing you're after and the outcome will be much better than an amateur version.

It would also be produced on industry standard software like quark or indesign which all printers worth their salt use.

thanks tony, but it is only a community newsletter not a big shiny document. My local printere will print from word or publisher and doesn't charge much
