View Full Version : Potential fast-catching business idea for those on the web

Hello,

If anyone is looking for a fun idea on the web, then you could copy this idea which has taken off in France. Not sure what the business model is for revenues, but the traffic is going exponential.

Below is an example I did in about 1 minute. I haven't seen anything similar in the UK yet (apologies if it already exists).

Im sorry, but I think its an awful idea.

Why would people want to click and watch this?

I'm not really judging it, but a lot of people like it.

You basically select a stock piece of a 1970's Z-series film, and add your own script to it. So rather than send a simple email, say, inviting a friend to lunch, you send it as a silly mini-clip. The person can then respond with their own silly clip. Fans of Woody Allen's Tiger Lilly film will appreciate it I suppose.

I'm not sure why it's taking off. Then again, I have no idea why people would ever pay for a new ringtone on their mobile, let alone bother to get one for free. But someone's making money from it.

At first I though what the F**k then I saw the fast fences one and thought.....that could be fun.

Not sure how I could incorporate it into my site though, any ideas?

I think it would have to be a dedicated page/site, with advertising around the video clip (the French site used here doesn't do it very well as you almost can't see the ads. Also, it's not obvious that you can reply with your own silly video clip).

It doesn't work too well on a forum like this one where people don't really know each other in the real world. However, between friends and colleagues it has really taken off. The internet traffic growth is exponential. An example: A group of 6 mates go out for a night out and something anecdotal happens to one of them. The next morning, rather than chide him with a plain email, you send one of these clips to all 5 others. The others almost always respond with their own version. That's up to 6x6 hits on the site. Believe me, I get sent some real crackers from friends, which are obviously topical. When I get an email I smile if I see that the link is part of the message.

I know it's difficult to appreciate, but it is both addictif and contagious.

I should point out that I have no link to the company doing this, nor am I trying to sell anything, nor do I have anything to do with the internet. It's just that I travel a lot overseas and see many ideas that I think someone in that field could do something with in a different location.

PS: Still amazed that no-one in the UK has seriously set up a proper French crêpe business yet.

It's dead easy. Only takes a minute or two:

Pity the site is in French - it looks weird when people (from UK) click on the link.

Its hilarious...really tacky and corny, a bit of fun to brighten up any marketing mix.

I have already sent 5 video clips to friends and they all found it really funny.
