Just wondering if anyone could give me some info on business rates.

I've looked around and see its around the 44p mark per pound of the rateable business value? But how do i find out the rateable value, is it the price i pay to rent the property?

Is there ways around paying if im a small business or just run my business from home?

Any info on the topic would be great, im just trying to weigh up costing so i can see if its worth me moving to a new premesis or not :)

If you work from home you won't have any business rates unless your property has an element that has been rated for business (unusual).

The rateable value is to the best of my knowledge arrived at by using some fixed figures for retail/warehouse/office space, and multiplying by the relevant amount of floor area of each kind. Some adjustments are thereafter thrown at it which are too numerous to mention but can include access, suitability etc.

Quite often though the rateable value isn't dissimilar to the amount of rent charged. You pay the 44p on the ratebale value, and if you are a small business you normally get a 50% relief from that too.

Just google "Online Money Making", "Work at Home", "Freelance at Home" etc

I don't think you will get a fixed rate for working at home unless you are fully employed but required to work at home. My advice is try to find something you interested and work on it such as selling photos or footage. You can see some of the sites listed at my site in my signature:D
