I need to send a parcel to Germany. Could someone please advise of the quickest /cheapest/ reliable option.

My dad needed to get some important documents to my sister who lives just outside Stuttgart and found that DHL was the best deal.

You have to decide which is the priority, if you want quickest then you are looking at DHL, UPS, et al, but these are quite expensive, probably around £60 for the smallest parcel, but if cheaper is more important and a few days is OK then just take it to the post office, do international signed for if you want to be fairly sure it will get there.
