Ahhh! i've been asked to go on a local radio station for an interview!!!

Has anyone got any advice for me? Luckily I won't be on my own, I'm rebranding the local markets so one of the traders will be with me...

I'm feeling scared now but excitied at the same time :)

Any suggestions would be great!
thanks
Jen

Well done Jen and congratulations!

How exciting . . ! Apparently, if you are being interviewed, you can request the questions or what the tone of the interview is going to be like in advance. Some people like to do this, some people prefer spontaneous improvisation . . .

Think like a politician, if asked a difficult question, go around the houses and at the same time plug your service. Don't get hung up with answering a question that you don't know the answer to, just have little digressing answers prepared.

Before the show, practice imagining yourself bright, relaxed, happy and spontaneous. Visualise this and don't revise too much. Your brain will recall information as and when required, you'll be surprised how effectively it will work for you with little effort when needed.

The most important thing is to enjoy yourself. Have a ball and smile when talking, it will come across in your voice (research proves this).

Don't rush and don't be affraid to have little pauses.

Good luck and let me know how you get on, just remember, you'll be brilliant!

Don't worry. The DJ and the rest of the crew want a successful and non confrontational segment as much as you do. Go a bit early and take along some questions you would like to be asked; this will help them understand an area they know nothing about, and before you go, rehearse the answers to those questions, carefully not forgetting to plug whatever it is you want. (And mention The Dawg's Biscuits, natch. Always works. :))

I do some work for local radio so i'll try and help.
Although not rehearsed in anyway, the producer often runs through roughly what the interview will cover, expect the unexpected, presenter may throw some curve balls in, just chill, not like 160,000 people are listening.

I did a couple of local radio interviews last year, and quite enjoyed them really! It was more of a friendly chat.
Make sure you mention your business name/ objective though. I wasn't very good at that. On hindsight "at HS Language Services, we believe in..." etc could have been added in a few time, and I missed the opportunity.
The interviewer also brought up a few common misconceptions about languages and language learning, but fortunately that is something which comes up a lot, so I was able to deal with it, tell a few anecdotes etc.
You know your stuff, so it will all come out naturally.
Good luck and enjoy!

Good for you!
I have been on Radio 4 a couple of times, the one thing I have learnt is to write down anything you particularly want to say. Even the most obvious things you would never think you would forget, cos if you are like me, you will!

They mentioned about providing a question sheet - so I'll probably come up with the questions and bullet point answers.

Its on a monday night so I doubt there will be too many listeners... I'll just tell myself that anyhow lol!!!

Thanks for all the advice, i'm still nervous! I'm sure i'll be fine lol.

I just hate hearing myself - I have a youtube video out where i quickly show how to make a website, and I can't stand to watch it - it just makes me cringe!

I just hope I don't say anything completely stupid!

I have been doing several interviews with Hudson Valley Radio in America. Party 93.4.

I do a 30 min tech show every Wednesday and get quite a bit of web work from it.

To be honest Radio has boosted alot of leads and sales.

if the dj/host is good at there job you'll feel relaxed and it will just seem like a informal chat - good luck
