Hello everyone, may I introduce myself

Hi,

My name's Alison, I'm a sole trader and my business is called Hunkydory Home.

I make handmade lampshades and coordinating cushions in a range of retro, contemporary, shabby chic and children's designs and have been up and running for just over 2 months.

I operate solely online - a combination of ebay and through my own website - and so far, so good!

I have joined the forum as I'm interested to hear about other people's experiences of running their own businesses as well to 'meet' new people and to get advice when needed, as well as offer it if/when I can.

I look forward to being part of the forum. :D

I'm really chuffed with my site and logo, they were designed by John at www.bigpurplebox.net - he's been incredibly helpful with everything so I'd definitely recommend him.

Wicked site, it's given me a few ideas of my own. Thats the downside of this place (although really a positive) loads of webbies and marketing bods giving you new ideas. I spend ages, tweaking and re tweaking my site.

Your stuff is really cool, I'll keep it in mind for chrimbo. DO you make it yourself or import?

If you want to show images of rooms on your site, your welcome to incorporate some of my art onto the walls. I have some dealings with interior designers so I'll pass on your details. Perhaps you could do the same, after all were both into interiors of sorts.

Hi Claire,

Thanks for the feedback. I've had a look at your site too, what great artwork, (I'm feeling tempted already!) you are a very talented artist.

I make the products by hand myself, I don't design the fabric I import fabric prints and use them. Most of my sales via the website have been made-to-order so far.

I've yet to start making contacts in the interior design world and it would be great if we could work together in some way. I have been thinking about adding a gallery to my website with photos of rooms with my shades in and it would be great to have the artwork as part of this, the products could really help set each other off. I'm sure I can help spread the word about your business too.
