Hello all!
I'm a newbie on this forum, but I'll get straight to the point. :D
I have my website up and running for a few months now and I am getting some hits (says Google and my hosting company), but do not have a lot of response yet. I am paying Google to show my ad on a number of key search words, but I wonder if there is something that needs improving!
You can find my website by typing "Bos Analysis" in google or go directly to www bosanalysis co uk (am I allowed to do that here?)
I would really appreciate some pointers on the content and tell me what may scare people off or what I can do to generate more sales!
Should I advertise on specific websites?
Should I advertise off line?
Where do I network?
All this used to be so easy when I was employed at blue chip companies. Now I have to do everything myself!
Any advice is welcome and you can bash me over the head for doing newbie stuff that is frowned upon or even not allowed! I will learn!
Many many thanks! :)

At a quick glance the website doesnt look good at all, it looks far to basic and not appealing in the slightest

What would you suggest?
Do I need more text? Different pictures? Different colour scheme?
Any pointers are very welcome!
Thanks!

Welcome to the web.
You cannot simply wack up a website and expect a ton of visitors, never mind targeted ones...
It takes years to become established, and even more to earn trust, plus a few more to make money from even a great idea. :D It takes constant promotion, sales and trust-building to set yourself apart from the competition. I agree totally with buckdesigns - get your site redesigned into a professional, snappy feel, where you main skills are highlighted and display the people who are singing your praises.
Next start building links, and get a lot of em!
Good Luck

A new colour scheme and layout would be a start

Thanks again for the feedback.
I understand that it doesn't work that easy. That's why I'm asking.
Fortunately I have had some a few small projects through the website and a client I work for a few days every month just enough to pay for my bills. The big contract came from my contacts rather than the website.
Is the site colour scheme too dark?
Is the initial message not clear?
Thanks again!

Who is your target audience? By the look of the website it is real techies. I haven't a clue what any of it means. Now that's fine if I (a non-technical person with a business and a website) am not someone you are targeting. But if you are targeting people without a computing and technical background, your copy needs to be much more basic and user-friendly (and I suppose pictures and layout would help with this - but that's not my field, so I don't feel I can comment on that). Just compare the ordinary language used in the testimonials (saving us many hours, keeping a broader perspective) with the jargon you use (data warehouse, full life-cycle reporting solution etc). You are addressing the reader as if s/he is as knowledgeable as you.

You mentioned you use google. Have you used google analytics to try and find out what people do on your site once they land on it and how much time they spend on each page. Perhaps you should consider having a focus group and get people to give you feedback about your site. If you need to redesign approach a uni and see if one or more of their students would want to work with you in redesigning the site would be beneficial for their portfolio...
Hope that helps

Thanks Susan that's great feedback! I am targeting both techie and non-techie audiences. I'll work on the jargon busting content and save the techie talk for a link away from the home page. ;)
Do you as someone with a business need to turn your numbers into visible results?
This is great advice Thanks! :)

That does help! Funnily enough I do use Google analytics for work, but haven't used it for my own website.
The uni is idea is great too. I'll look into that!
This forum proves to be a great help! :D
