Hi, i am currently in the process of completing ICB level 1 bookkeeping course and looking towards completing levels 2 and 3, in manual bookkeeping before moving on to the computerised courses.
My plan is to eventually start my own bookkeeping business.
Would really like to hear from anyone who has any advice, and also should i start looking for jobs to gain experience or wait until i have gained some of the qualifications?. Thanks x :)

There is masses of stuff on the subject in the forum - suggest you do a search.
If I were a client I would be looking for a real depth of experience in a book keeper so get out there and get a job asap.

Would say at this time you would be better getting experience in bookkeeping in a job (if there are any in your area) I know some people in various locations who says it is impossible to get job however much experience/qualifications you have because there are so many people going for the one job. If you are lucky enough to get a job would say best hang on to it until the economic climate has improved as it is really tough at the moment for bookkeepers, there is so many self employed bookkeepers and not enough clients for them because in the recession some are going under, some are making cut backs and doing their own bookkeeping because they can do it but before recession were too busy with other parts of business but with business being slower for most businesses people have more time to do their own.

I have lost 1 major client and 2 minor clients since March 2009 because of the recession.
