I recently moved out of my leased studio to work from the house, I have a large room above the double garage I now use as my studio. The only thing is I have no room for a gallery, I'm considering taking over the garages.

Where do you work from, offices, home, virtual, van, shop or what?

Up until a year ago I had an office on an industrial estate. Now, although we have a London address generally I work from a custom built office at the bottom of my garden in Pembury near Tunbridge Wells :)

Our servers are located in datacentres in the UK and USA and I meet up with most of the people that work for me on a regular basis - but most is done via email and phone.

I itend to work from my bedroom, which is not the most ideal solution but it will do. If the business takes off then I plan to have a small office nearby.

My new business will start from my spare room to keep the costs down.

I am lucky as the products will be sent to the customer using the post, and their is a post office just about a hundred meters from my front door!

So this will work out very well until hopefully the business will outgrow my home.

My PC is based in the spare room and I paint at the end of the garden. My shed has been insulated and has heating, light and electricity. My cat even has it's own bed so it can keep me company.

Just remember family, friends and general public.....it's called THE STUDIO not THE SHED!!!

I can get very angry!

LOL - mines the opposite - it's a studio I call the Shed!

I'm another bedroom worker :D The whole house is full of boxes and toys this is the only spot left (and there are a load of boxes behind me here too!). I would love to have a little office but alas long way off yet.

I used to work in the conservatory, then it became the conservatory/kitchen office. We then moved to a bigger house where one of the garages was converted to an office. Now I am taking on more staff it was a choice of either knocking through to the other garage or getting an office so I decided to get an office.
The problem is that I now miss my kids as I have been with them every day for 3 years and now during the working week I only see them for an hour in the evening and its quite upsetting. I plan to work from home a day a week again once my new staff are trained up.

Started under the stairs

Then moved into the spare room, with kids all over the place.

Then spread out all over the house with boxes every where, under beds, sofas, still lots of kids :D

Then into a big shed in the garden, packing parcels with a baby on my back.

Now in offices just up the road, Kids at school or with child minder.

Hi,

I have managed to take over the spare bedroom and the dinning room so far. My husband says he going to stick me in the caravan soon, with all my junk, as he puts it

I started from the spare bedroom, then a shared office - I then merged companies with one of the guys I shared an office with and we needed to take on staff and have a nicer area/office (we were in Hackney) to bring clients to, so for the last 18months we've had a nice office near London Bridge.

Same as Ozzy, the worst thing about it is not seeing the little 'un. But on the plus side there is now a clear line between work-time and family-time.

So, how many of you people still working from home get to midday before you realise you still haven't ot dressed or brushed your teeth? : )

All I can say is thank god I haven't got a webcam!!! I always seem to be the first out of bed and the last to get dressed and ready, as I have so much to do in the morning.

I have turned the dining room into an office, so currently have a board meeting table for 10!

I have no childcare and a 2 year old, so it is the only workable solution to running a full time business and being a full time mum - takes some serious juggling though!

Works well for us at the moment, but to be honest, roll on February when she can go to nursery for 2 mornings a week and I can then make phone calls without demands in the background for nappy changes, tellytubbies or sweeties! Also uniterrupted concentration time would be a serious luxury. :?

I work from home. Luckily we have a large double garage which is almost separate to the house, we had half converted to an office, I use the other half as a warehouse and it has a workshop out the back - works great.

I used to have an office on an industrial unit, much prefer working from home, much more relaxing and I see the kids more.

I work from my bedroom, its really not a bedroom any more, its an office with a bed in it. I do tend to roll out of bed and onto the computer chair. Luckily i dont really have the need for an office, although i still really want one, mainly for the reason of separating work time from home time, i sometimes find it hard to separate the two.

Luckily i have no children to get in the way, just a dog that crys like a child :P he reminds me to get showered and dressed though, he demands his morning walk :D

We already had a room set aside as a study, so we use that for the business, too.

I've worked from home for several years now. With a wife, six children, and a dog, I manage this only because I had an office built in my garage; I'm shielded from the many noises in the house. With a separate phone line and a DSL connection, I'm all set.

The difficulty with working from home is that it's not easy to separate work life from home life. If I think of something over dinner, for example, I can just step back into the office. If I had to drive for 20 minutes, I'd probably wait until the morning.

That is the major difference I am finding now that I have an office some 15 minute drive from home. When I get home I am now "home", where as when I worked form home I never stopped working. Practically every night as soon as the kids were in bed I would go back to the "garage office" to work still 10ish. Now I sit in the living room asking the wife every 2 minutes "Who's that?", "What happened to so-and-so?", and "Why they doing that?" as I try and catch up with the last 3 years of Corry, Eastenders, and what have you.

Yes I have had the remote/magazine/cup/plate/knifes thrown at me a few times :) (and told to shut up).

But Ozzy, considering the times you post, I guess your still working a little bit at home!

It made me laugh how many of us where still chatting away this weekend and the other night until midnight!
