I have just registered with findtheneedle.co.uk with a free entry, and then received a phone call saying they would give me a 3 month free upgrade. Not sure how good this will be, but my question is, does anyone know of any good traffic generating sites or directories that dont ask the earth. I dont mind placing a link on my site but nothing more

Thanks in advance

I would look at the possible traffic that you would gain.

A free upgrade sounds nice. But seeing as you run a niche service/product, question is are your customers going to go to this directory to look for you in the first place?

Untargeted traffic means low conversion, isn't that what the marketing books tell you?

there are few quality UK directories that are free.

Splut
Scoot
Free Index
b2bindex

are all examples of the few "quality" ones you should list in.

ppc is ideal for niches - so long as you can identify how your potential customers will search. Directories are great for plumbers!

You should also try DMOZ.It takes a while to get listed but it is definitely worth the wait.Yahoo directory is another good one.

Directories are great for plumbers! It's changed a bit since the invention of Yellow Pages :D The 'General' or Yell directory concept lists far more than Plumbers or trade services, infact it extends deeply into b2b services.

But the market is saturated with Yell.com copycats and is now hanging by a thread. With the YP getting thinner every time I get my copy, it's no surprise it has little time left. What is on the increase is the 'vertical' directory, or niche portal as it's known - offering targeted advertising and cutting out irrelevant searches, yet delivering targeted prospects that are interested in your product. They cut out all that useless wading of unrelated results and give you the right websites/businesses, saving you time.

Useful if you have a lot of related searching to do eg: 30 plus services to find.
