Hi all,
I currently have one business name and one website which lists all the services I can provide. The services I can provide probably could be divided into 3 categories. Do you think it is best to stick with this or should I think along the lines of creating 3 divisions, each with their own website? I am thinking that this would help me to market each service more effectively.
What is your opinion/experience?

What are the three categories?

1, CV services
2, Business Process Development
3, Administrative support

I would think that it should be possible to seperate out those activities and market them effectively from one website (I'm fairly certain that Anne does a similar thing with her website)
www.freelanceofficeservices.co.uk
A website for C. V. services would certainly be overkill and not really cost effective.
I would however like to see the website design/SEO angle on this.

I have seen that done in your field before and it seemed to work very successfully, as whatever you searched for they came up in the results. It also looked very professional and made their business seem alot bigger than it probably is.
It would allow you to try different looks and feels for each website tailored to each market also.

1, CV services
2, Business Process Development
3, Administrative support
The three you indicated could easily work as a single point of supply.
I see you also have Wedding Services.
This I think would benifit from a separate web presence.

Thanks for your comments but it seems that the opinion is mixed.
Based on this, could I combine the two ideas by creating a sub-domain for each of my areas and having access to them from one homepage? Would I be able to create different styled webpages for each section and upload them to the relevant sub-domain?
Perhaps this should have gone under the Web Design forum!

Clare I have two aspects of my photography business the commercial side and the fine art side. I have split the site with different navigation but kept the look and feel the same.
I may consider two differently designed sites, but as I'm usually cross selling it made sense to have one point of presence.

Hi all,
Thanks again for all your tips.
I have made some changes to my website and I think I have managed to create the effect I was looking for. I am now highlighting my range of services on the welcome page, with a different sub-page for each section. I think it looks much more professional than one big long list of services, and it's easier for people to find what they are looking for.
If you have time, please take a look and let me know what you think.
Thanks.

Hi Clare -
I think you have made it plain and simple for people to see where they are going for what services from your homepage.
If you are marketing a site via search engines, visitors will come into the site via the relevant page anyway so they should avoid any potential confusion (not that I feel there would be any).
There are some very good reasons again from a search engine marketing perspective NOT to start splitting the site up into subdomains or new domains anyway.
My only reservation is your wedding services page. It seems a little out of place and I don't think the 'grey theme' works for a wedding subject.
By the way, if you ever want to write me an article on aspects of weddings, pm me and I will take a look and put it on my site!!
Good Luck.

Hi Clare
The way you have put your services on your homepage is a good thing it makes it very easy to understand for potential customers.
I am a bit unsure about having your wedding services on that website at all though as it seems the only part that doesn't match up with the basis of the rest of your services.
I would make a different website for this service alone. That way you can change the colour schemes and style if you wish.
Just one other thing I noticed on your homepage. Your title needs to be a bit more descriptive include your most sought after keyword or keywords in it if you can but make sure it makes sense and is not to long. This will help on some search engines.
Hope this helps
