I am the owner and chief bottle washer for a small company in a very niche market. My company consists of only myself and my wife and items are prions and sell for $20,000-$40,000 on average. I've worked with SEO and IT individuals one-on-one but for the most part have done a good part of study and research in order to speak their language and give specific and helpful information along the way.
The short story in my immediate need is to know if they is a recommended program for spidering the Internet to collect targeted e-mail addresses. Prior, I used a suite called Prospect Finder with acceptable results but other aspects of trying to run the business distracted me from the technical end of the marketing and now I find myself in need of acquiring another program that may be better or more up-to-date. After contacting the manufacturer of Prospect Finder today they inform me that the program they sell now had changed in order to comply with some new Internet rules. That program used to let you put a specific URL like a directory that listed multiple businesses within my industry that I wanted to collect e-mail addresses from, and it would spider the entire website collecting all the middle addresses from the various businesses that have posted either a free or paid for listing. Now, their primary program they sell does not have that feature any longer and they have a sister site called link nabber dot com which does something similar but mainly appears to be used for collecting highly ranked websites within a key word or phrase in order to build your linking in order to increase your organic SEO by link building however it appears that it may in fact collect email addresses but I'd rather see what you guys have to offer as a suggested program first.
It was 2003 when I purchased the old version and I don't have my customer ID and unlock codes anymore and they don't have them on file to give me.

Can anyone recommend a spidering program for me to collect targeted e-mail addresses ? I would like to have the option of experimenting by keyword but primarily would like to put a specific URL to a directory and mine and collect all of those e-mail addresses that have already been collected into a targeted URL. In other words, I don't want one of those generic spiders that just goes out and collects any old e-mail you can that exists on the Internet to spam. I'm not set up for spamming, and I'm signed up and experimenting with Constant Contact which frowns on sending e-mail to people who have not opted in or been given the opportunity to opt in. I also welcome any opinion or experience regarding Constant Contact which I have found to be very user-friendly as well as giving good feedback on how many e-mails were opened, which customers clicked on a particular hyperlink, takes care of the people who want to opt out and so forth. I'm told however that many of my e-mails will be undeliverable because the Internet Service Providers have blacklisted some of those e-mail managing programs.
Enough for now. This is my first post as a new user and if there is a better category for these types of questions please let me know.
Thank you in advance for the advice and recommendations.

The problem that you will have now is that it is illegal to send unsolicited emails in bulk. (spam).
If you send an email from data capture it must be done via an opt-in (note opt out is not allowed either)

I think it would be helpful to expand on this in a few areas. To put it a touch bluntly you will be lucky to get any replies on software recommendations; email harvesting software is considered at best rather unethical - in fact in some countries (New Zealand and Australia for example) collecting email addresses by automated means is illegal. US anti-spam law is a bit rubbish frankly, but as you don't mention your target markets I stuck that point in.

Basically, you would be much better off taking an opt-in approach to collecting addresses. Get people coming to your site and encourage them to sign up to receive information from you. That way you can be completely confident in using third party send engines that the data you have complies with their terms and conditions. If people are visiting but not leaving their email addresses then investigate this problem instead of trying to take contact data from other places. It will do your reputation a lot more good in the longer term as well.

The advice you had regarding email send engines being blacklisted can be largely disregarded. Reputable firms won't let you use the lists you have collected from harvesting software anyway, and most spend time and effort working with ISPs to make sure they don't get wiped out by spam claims. Using a third party is a lot easier and more productive than trying to do it yourself. It's cheaper too.

So basically, change your approach to building your prospect list. Forget about email harvesting software, get traffic to your site and use opt-in methods to build you list, and go for a good email send engine that does the basics you need.

And some punctuation would be good, that was quite difficult to read!
