Hi folks

Our current online store is database driven which is linked to Mals cart. We would like the cart to be more integrated but cannot change the underlying structure of our site. Mals only allows a certain degree of customisation and you go onto their site for the cart.

I see oscommerce have an integrated cart and wondered if it is possible to add just their cart feature to an existing store?

Thanks

If we are talking about integrating shopping carts into an existing site - then most things are possible. If the subject is photography or art, then that is our forte - we are both photographers and webdevelopers, and have crossed most of the briges before

Hi There,

We have delivered many OSC based websites and have lots of experience customising and integrating it to different systems.

I am a little fuzzy about exactly what you are trying to achieve though... can you explain further?

This is the latest shop we launched last week - www.bankofflowers.co.uk (http://www.bankofflowers.co.uk)

PM me with your phone number if you would like a chat

Thanks Trev

I have just had a long chat with Richard (many thanks) about this and it seems the best bet is to start from scratch with a CMS like Joomla as our backend is made from paper and cardboard stuck together Blue Peter fashion and doesn't offer the chance to integrate a cart!

Currently the cart is hosted off-site by Mals rather than part of our site.

For the record Richard was extremely helpful and certainly knew his stuff. A thoroughly nice chap :)

I will look at the various CMS available and see what best suits our needs.

oooo you don't want to use Joomla! Had many horror stories!

Take a look at Trading Eye :) Great piece of kit!

No prob... best of luck....

Personally I use DotNetNuke for my content based websites and OSCommerce for E-Commerce solutions.

I am yet to find a combined CMS/E-Commerce system that has the necessary power and functionality....

It seems to be horses for courses...

A simple cart that would integrate well with your site is TopShopper. See how it has been used with site 'takingthepics.com/thegalleries/' . However this is the older version of TopShopper. The newer is more sophisticated.

Hi Spock,

You don't have to go all out spending money on a complete re-build of your web site in order to upgrade your existing site and integrate an alternative shopping cart solution in place of your current solution.

The Shop Integrator ecommerce toolkit (http://www.shopintegrator.com/)will allow you to plug-in ecommerce in to your existing website, which could give you a considerable cost saving over a full rebuild.

If you would like to explore this option as well as the rebuild option you are considering, I would be happy to talk more to you about this. I'll quickly be able to show you a demo based on your existing site so you'll see exactly how it would work for you.

Never realised this was the tenders and offers forum.

I've tried Joomla on the odd occasion since it was Mambo and every time found it to be vulnerable to attack too easily, coupled with badly written template code I never went back to it.

If you weren't going custom but were thinking about going from the ground up, I'd currently opt for Magento if the server is set up correctly.

Spock, actually, there's a number of solutions (both free and paid) which allow to completely customize the store and seamlessly build it into an existing website. Could you please share some of your requirements specific for the ecommerce part? The choice may highly depend on them.

It's just simple you have to upgrade your database table fields.
