Looking for recommendations for developers from people who have had there sites developed in Magento

Dont want loads of developers saying "we can do it" as I will only based my decisions on recommendations.

Can I meet you in the middle :)

I'm putting ourselves forward but you can see the recomendations here: http://www.nublue.co.uk/about_nublue_hosting/testimonials

Most of the testimonials are from Magento customers on our hosting platform some of which have also used our development services.

Ok...go on then

I actually saw a recommendation pointing to you for hosting, didnt realise you designed as well...teach me not to look to hard!

Whilst your on, can you clear up the speed issues with magento I keep hearing. Am I correct in saying that if a server is properly configured for it then it is no worse than any other solution? And what sort of hosting package would you recommend as the bear minimal (gives me a starting point) for a ecommerce site with several 1000 products.

Hi,

The speed thing has largely been sorted out in the latest version of Magento. Due to its structure and large amount of features I would say it is still slower then some of its peers but no where near as bad as it once was. This is our demo store which is on shared hosting:

But we always suggest a VPS for Magento for two reasons.

1) Magento is resource intentsive and if you have guaranteed resources (as you would with a VPS) then you will have a more consistent performance.

2) Due to the new regulations on PCI compliance being brought into effect, we recomend all ecommerce traders have a VPS solution. If you want to have an on-site payment gateway and store any sensitive details in the future then you will need a self contained hosting environment.

I hope that helps

You can opt for a Linux VPS to run Magento. Magento is a bit resource intensive which may result in slow speeds and load times if hosted on a shared hosting account. We have many customers who have been using Magento on VPS hosting and they are quite satisfied with the performance they are getting. Our VPS technical support team have also made some tweaks in apache, mysql and php configuration on their VPSs in order to improve the performance of Magento.

You can check our Linux VPS Hosting plans at http://www.eukhost.com/vps-hosting.php

You can also find discussion on our forum at http://www.eukhost.com/forums/search.php?searchid=462354

let me know if you need any help :)
