Hi there,

Do you mean, how do you get your business listed when someone searches on your postcode/area? If so, you need to set up a Google account, then go to Google maps. Next click on 'Put Your Business on Google Maps' and then 'Add new business' and follow the instructions! Hope this helps! If not, come back to me!

Sorry! I understand you now!

The EXACT algorithm Google use for this is of course their closely guarded secret, along with the algorithm for “Google page rank”.

However, the main factors appear to be:

Proximity of business to the search term used i.e., how close you are to the geographical place used in the search.
The depth of the copy used in your business listing AND how this compares with other words used in the search. E.g. if you have more information about your business and what your business does the better. If words in your business description marry with what the search phrase was, you’ll rank better.
Reviews of your business plus your webstats – Google loves user generated content, more positive reviews = good. More clicks to your site = good.
Additional factors that may impact this are:

Other local listing entries – Yell etc..
Bizarrely, inclusion of images might help too…
Maybe that's more use than my first reply!!
