We are considering taking credit card payments from clients for the first time but we're not to sure how to go about it and how much it is going to cost.
Does anybody have any knowledge regarding this?

I have just gone through the same process. They all seem to give you that piece of machinery that you must put on your desk, but Barclaycard Merchant services does a nice web-based one. I also got decent rates (1.95% on credit cards, 35p on debit cards).
Also check what cards they accept. Not all cards are accepted with all providers.
