I've used VR for years but it can get quite expensive at those sorts of volumes if you are e-mail regularly and I also had concerns about how many of the mails were getting through -- they provide no real stats on that.

InTouch CRM (http://www.intouchcrm.co.uk/) is worth a look. They are UK based and claim to work with the UK ISPs to reduce the instances of non-delivering because of spam filters. It also works out a lot cheaper than VR if e-mailing is something you do regularly.

Constant Contact is VR's biggest rival but from what I can make out they charge for storing the address data, so you're paying even if you're not sending.

I hope this helps.

EmailChimp is another popular service. I've never worked with them, but heard of them many time, so it's just an idea for your consideration.

I use mailchimp (http://www.mailchimp.com/pricing/) and find it great. It might not be the cheapest but it's definitely the most user friendly. :-)
