Hi there!
My brother is considering importing a steel warehouse from India/China - obviously if the price is right! The most popular website is alibaba.com - and that's where I'm looking around for him. I've read many stories of people who had been cheated, etc. but it's mostly when buying elctronic goods. I would like to hear from people who have done business there, especially with steel suppliers. How did you choose and verify suppliers, what about custom duty, etc. Many thanks!

One more thing - are there any specific EU norms the steel has to meet?

I have an impression that it is not wise to completely trust this site and people were fraud in some cases. You will find so many threads talking about verification of buyer/supplier. So many leads, but when you reply...they never reply you back! I have never done business there...so I cant answer your question. Just saying what I think about alibaba.com

I have a steel frame building that's excess to requirements..... 160' x 30' x 18' to the eaves.
Going cheap if you're interested.

I'm not 'up' on my steel warehousing but I can imagine it's quite expensive? If that's the case it might be safer for your brother to fly out to China to locate one.
When he manages to find a supplier ask them if they can give you a few references for companies in the UK who they have supplied and then get your brother to contact them to verify.
Even if your brother doesn't fly out there I would definitely do the reference part. No references = No sale.

It does cost a bit :-) I've read many posts on alibaba forum and basically due dilligence is the most important thing. After initial talks he will probably fly there to have a look at the factory. I was just wondering if anyone knew any suppliers in that business who are proven and trustworthy - if there are any ;-)
