Hi there resourceful people

I am presenting a parenting workshop next week and need a 20 minute game to hilight the different communication styles - does anyone have any suggestions? Ideally I need something more dynamic than a VAK questionnaire.

Many thanks
Rachel

something like

split the group into x2
people in 1 half have to pretend they area thalidomides(cant walk, no arms and legs)

each with the other half (your child careworker)
sat on the floor you have to get a basket ball into the hoop(bin) at the other end of the room, all you have is 1 support worker to talk to but you are not allowed to say the words 'ball' or 'net' or 'circle' or 'throw' 'put' etc

you have to get the ball into the hoop/bin without directly telling them what it is you want to do....

this should bring up some interesting results and points for discussion

hope this works and helps you? just off the top of my head i have no idea

Chinese whispers

1. Seat everyone in a circle.
2. Whisper a long phrase to one person.
3. They, in turn, whisper what they heard to the next person, and so on.
4. The last person announces what they heard.

You need a large group in order to really enjoy this game. A variation on this could be the following:

1. Seat everyone in a circle.
2. The first person whispers an English phrase to the second person.
3. The second person then translates it into Hindi (or another langauge) and whispers it to the third person.
4. The third person translates it back into English and whispers it to the fourth person.
5. This pattern of alternating translation should continue until the last person.
6. The last person announces what he/she heard.
7. Enjoy the hilarious end to this simple and wonderful game.

Try giving each person a cartoon character and ask them how they would respond to a set of questions or question.

Charaters to include

Top Cat
Arthur the Aardvark
Yogi Bear
Shaggy out of Scooby Doo
Wylie Coyote
Any of the Simpsons
Hong Kong Fooey
Penelope Pitstop (whoops almost put pisstop)
Dick Dastardly
Danger Mouse
Liono out of Thunder Cats/He Man
etc etc
