View Full Version : Desperate - any original ideas for a comp?

Hi all

I normally run a monthly comp on the website, and the last one ended on the 30th. So I have temporarily stopped the competition page from showing.

I have been trying to think of an original idea for a competition. I normally give away a book (or voucher) in exchange for a question:

e.g. How many Harry Potter books are there?
Who wrote book x?

But I'm sure that is getting boring for people, so am desperate for some new things to ask people to do in order to enter the comp. Given that it would normally be up yesterday, I am literally feeling fairly desperate as I have no original ideas?

Can anyone offer any ideas? I've done "join the mailing list" etc, before.

Any help gratefully appreciated. If I get several good ideas I can save some up for future comps!

Thanks for any help!

Dilip

We don't have a question for our competition and I'm convinced it draws more people in, we just alternate the prize each month:D

I'm not very good with ideas, so will leave that to some clever clogs who will no doubt be along in a mo.

Lots of luck!:D

you could do one of those reverse auctions where whoever bids the lowest unique price gets the prize for their bid...

Which book will be top of next week's bestseller list (i.e., since it looks like you're a bookseller, the book you sell most copies of)? The prize could be a copy of that book.

Possible ideas could come from numerology (plenty of ideas in there which you should have books for ;) ) or active members on the site contributing to the blog or forum if you have them, I tend to think rewarding members for their contributions is more beneficial and encourages participation.
We recently did a give us some feedback question (so not necessarily a competition!) on our plugin over at SC, one of our forum members won the prize, regular things like this all help.

Thanks very much to each of you for those ideas. Excellent ideas which will keep me going for some months...I can use them all.

Anybody else who has anything to offer - I'd welcome further ideas.
