View Full Version : Personalised Flower Business Name Needed.....

Some of you may be aware of my new rose business idea, if not view http://www.ukbusinessforums.co.uk/viewtopic.php?t=4851

Now I am looking for a business name.

I have purchased www.rosesbydesign.com as a start, but if I find a better business name and domain name I will change in this early stages.

So any ideas of what I can call my personalised rose business?

I quite like modern names, it needs to be memorable and brandable.

What do you think of 'RosesByDesign' ?

Russ

"call me petal"?

Why not just "Personalised Petals" - it does what it says on the can! Especially as it is so unusual?

Say it with flowers is a good one, but the domain name is not available.

What does everyone think of my current name idea 'Roses By Design' ??

Say it with a flower - maybe?

or Say it with a Rose

I think your current 'Roses by design' is the best so far.

Is it going to be mainly online?
if so keep the spelling very simple.

Written on Roses
my flower message
flowers by design (is it only roses?)
for you, my petal
my petal

I like "Roses by Design" simple slogan and easily branded

thanks guys,

I also like Roses By Design, I was thinking about 'Designer Roses' but left that idea as I thought it might sound too expensive (like designer clothing) and might scare away some customers before they even visit.

MarkPearson

Hi Top Hat,

Yes the business will be mainly online.

Do you think there could be a market jor them in jokes.

If we produced some with silly messages on?

Would you consider selling them on your site?

Just an idea

Would we sell them? Unlikely

I do think it is a good product to sell, just its not for us.

I consider them to be a party item 'happy 12th birthday'

We will also produce fresh rose petal confetti with messages or images on the petals.

If you do any high end party ware could also be in this section?

Hadn't thought of that.

We do plenty of party stuff and lots of the table confetti, so there may be a market there.

Yes, thats what I thought.

Even as a silly idea valentines day could be good for selling red roses with silly messages on.

Remember we can customise all messages...

Can be sent to people as practical jokes and not to lovers with silly messages on.

The party section could do well, party table confetti with messages.

Not sure if you do other celebrations wedding, anniversary, birthday.

The roses would also make great dinner party table placements, with each guests name on a rose (so they know where to sit!

I really like RosesByDesign.

I can be so easy to end up being cheesy in an effort to find something clever that you have to be so careful - speaking from experience.

Apparently it's proven fact that businesses with cutsey, twee names have a greater failure rate than others. The name you chose sounds classy IMO

Here's my own, very subjective take on this, assuming I have understood correctly:

"RosesByDesign" isn't bad, but it isn't perfect either - specially for non-business people who have no idea what you are offering. Although it sounds quite professional, I fear that for the general public it may sound a bit too "complicated" and possibly even garden-oriented. It should resonate with the mindset and mood of your potential clients.

Why not focus more on who it's for and the context in which it applies? "Petal party" or "Fun petals" or something along those lines. Obviously, if you're targeting corporate clients, then that's something different.

Just my two Euro's worth. Good luck, whatever the final name is.

David.

Mark I have a different angle for you to think about.

Investigate what words you expect people to type into Google to find your product and then think about having at least some of them in your name/domain name. This makes a massive difference to search engine optimisation.

Just a few ideas. I'd disagree with the comments about Roses by Design - yes, it is exactly what it says on the tin, but too many businesses these days are 'XYZ by Design'...just take a look in the Yellow Pages! Surely you want something a bit more original and creative?

If you need any leaflets, brochures, web pages or anything promotional, please bear me in mind! I'm a copywriter and I run StrayGoat Copywriting (www.straygoat.com) - I can provide full copy, design, and print services at good rates.

Seems some like RosesByDesign as a business name while other do not.

I do see the point made about naming the business using the search keywords.

Can anyone suggest ideas for this?

Mine are the keywords I can think about below:

Personalised roses

Embossed roses

Designer roses

Any more? what would you type in a search engine to find our business

It's a tough one because most people don't even know such a unique service exists so wouldn't search for it.

The most likely would be "Roses" or "Flowers" maybe "something special".

Every time some looks for either you want your site to feature on the search results, I suggest you look at the main flower websites particularly their key words and try matching these your site name will be your "brand" that will come later.

SillyJokes

Also keywords

Printed
Flower/s
bespoke

but I would probably look for either printed or personalised and flowers as well as roses and rosebuds

PrintARose
Language of Flowers
A rose for the lady

you can't have say it with flowers- interflora would eat you for breakfast.

Think also = is it always going to be roses you print? - will it change to eggshells, puppies, fruit, etc in the future? If you think ahead you may not want to be saddled with a rose specific URL when you are selling printed rice paper

So a name such as PrintedWhispers might allow you more scope in the future.

It's brandable and easier to remember than an effort to force your keywords into your URL in an awkward way.

Tiggy

lol, we will not have the licence for the elvis rose.

Don't you think its naff?

As for easter why print on eggs?

I would sooner receive flowers with 'Happy easter' on than an egg.

Unless it a nice big chocolate one!

We will add seasonal items anyway so 'Happy Easter' roses and easter eggs will be available online at that time of year.

All our Rose items will have the option to come with Chocolates, champaign, wine or teddy bears all year round.

Not forgetting vases.

This will help us to increase the average customers spend and help to create a one stop shop for people ordering rose as gifts.

Don't forget any name should be checked out for trade mark infringement in respect of the same or similar names - checking Companies House doesn't mean a thing.

Also, the more distinctive the name is, the more easily it may be protectable.

Yes, the Elvis Roses are really naff, but I know someone I would buy them for. He is having a Elvis Death Party early next year.

However I truly believe the entire concept is naff, but that won't stop it from selling.

If you don't know why anyone would want a printed egg at Easter I can teach you nothing, my young apprentice.

However you are right to concentrate on your core business. Just remember to think ahead to when you might want to expand your range.

I suppose the distinction to be made here is that, yes, Elvis roses and such like are definitely naff and tacky but then there are lots of naff and tacky people out there who will buy that kind of thing.

But then if you have an idea in your mind that you want your business to be known for class and elegance, it doesn't matter how you expand in the future; items like that would have no place.

Mark,
just be aware that there are an enormous amount of florists that use the 'by design' tag in their names.

Incidentally where did you get your 'fact' from? the F&PA 2003 Survey?

It's interesting to note that the 'most popular' flower is the rose in the F&PA survey but the flowers that people actually buy are carnations Xanth and lillies by volume and value.

Can I suggest you look at marketing to the kind of people who buy roses rather than the kind of people who buy flowers.
Believe it or not the two are quite different!

Tiggy
29th September 2005, 15:29
