Tell me bout it, Im still waiting for 8Mb up here in aberdeen. Ive been stuck on 2Mb for about 2 years now.

We are way behind a lot of other countries with pricing and speed of services. In Japan they are getting affordable fiber links to their door and Sweden is not far behind

http://www.theinquirer.net/?article=13266 Sweden in 2003
http://www.theinquirer.net/?article=13290 Japan 100Mb for £30

Its just a pity we have such a crap telecoms company.

I wouldnt complain too much Chris I can only get 1Mb maximum although statistics show that we never actually get near that speed.

Sorry its not that im ungreatful but it just annnoys me how cheap and fast services are in other countries.

I pull at max about 238kb/s from my line, when I had my 1Mb line I used to get about 118kb/s.

Something that has started to annoy me is that now lots of people have signed up on 2Mb up here the speed has started to drop at times. Sometimes it even halves but since they advertise as speeds up to 2Mb they can get away with it. Up until about 3 or 4 months ago i allways got full speed.

Where are you in the uk that you can only get 1MB ,I thought just about everywhere was up to 2Mb now.

Sorry for the rant BTW its just that its something that I use constantly and would jump at the chance to upgrade even if I had to pay over the odds for as was the case when I originaly got the 2Mb.

I suppose BT will just wait until they think enough people are willing to pay more for a faster service before they upgrade the exchanges. It makes business sense but I wish they could do it sooner.

Any organisation who wants band-width up to 24MB and secure VOIP with crystal clarity on an uninterruptible platform should talk to me.

Also anyone who wants to discuss business process solutions that utilise convergence should also call.

Obviously the above is meant for large organisations.

Any small SME who needs advice and potentials solutions just make contact

I wouldent mind 24MB, 24Mb would be nice also though. I cant realy say anything though as I said 1MB instead of 1Mb in my previous post.

I take it that the service is expensive as you are saying that it is for large organisations. I am only after it for my house.

If it was up to me id have OC192 connection to my door but I dont have several thousand per month to spend on my home internet connection, wish I did though.

I am based in a village which 7 miles from nearest town and exchange hence line degradation makes it almost impossible for 1Mb.

I think it's about time they did something about upload speeds.

I'm on a 2MB download and 256k upload

I'd be very wary too of the figures being used. My current office in France is a bit out of town (I think well over a mile from the nearest repeater/comms station) so I can't go above 6Mbits/s, even though I pay the same for those who have nearer the full 20Mbits/s. Also, even the attainable 6Mbits/s is a maximum peak, and on very large file downloads I rarely get above 400Kbytes/s sustained transfer rates.

There is a free website here in France that let's you enter your phone number and it tells you how far you are from the nearest station and what the max. potential data rate is for your installation. The same must exist in the UK.

I think they are intentionaly keeping UL speeds down as they want people that host mail servers ect to pay for the premium service instead. Im sure they could give more upload if if the wanted to.

Its anoying realy as a lot of people upload, especialy if they have a website and it can take ages.

I dont think that people should have to pay the full ammount if they dont recieve it. They should tighten up on the laws surrounding the issue and it may force the telecoms providers to put in more repeater stations as it would make them more money. Justnow there is no incentive as they can charge people the same for the lesser service because they use the words "up to".
