View Full Version : Where can I find freelance journalists for writing content?

I need some articles written for a new website - these will need to be of the same quality as articles written for local or national newspapers or magazines (ie: not just basic keyword stuffing web content which provides little useful information).

Does anyone know where I would find freelance journalists, particularly those who specialize in specific areas (overseas property; travel; investment) ?

And does anyone have a rough estimate of what the going rate is for this sort of work? (I would require exclusive use of the content online, but would not have a problem with it being resold to print publications as long as they did not use it online).

Many thanks,

Mark.

Hi Mark,

There are a couple of writers on the forum - try contacting Amber at Writing World, she could possibly help. The link is below.

Hi Mark,

I know a freelance journalist (he writes for national magazines) who also does copywriting. Freelance journalists will charge in the region of £150 per day.

If you're interested in getting in touch with him then please contact me with your details and I'll ask him to contact you (apologies for the long way round about this but I don't think it's my place to give his contact details out).

All the best,

Lindsey.

Thanks Mumper :)

Mark, I run the site John linked you to, and am also a freelance writer myself (based just outside Edinburgh) so feel free to PM/email me if you have any questions.

Rates will really vary depending on the writer. At the moment we're running a special offer on web articles through Hot Igloo: there's some more information here: http://www.hotigloo.co.uk/articlewriting.htm

Hi Mark

I have 3 freelance copywriters who do work on our behalf.

If you need a quotation, please email me the info and I'll get one over to you asap.

Thanks for all the replies - very helpful. Still at the very early planning stages but will contact people individually via pm regarding this.

Thanks again,

Mark

Hi Mark,
I am currently travelling around Spain, and have quite a few travel articles if you are interested? If so, drop me a PM.

I'm a freelance writer too. As Amber says, rates vary, but most of us charge per 1000 words for journalistic pieces, rather than an hourly rate. Please PM me if you think I can help.

Hi Mark,

I run a website for freelance writers at writethismoment.com and I would be happy to place a posting on there for you (it's free to post jobs!) if you're looking for specialist writers. Please send me a PM if I can help.

Best wishes with your venture!

Carol

Hi

Another avenue to try if you want to use people who are trained journalists is the NUJ (National Union of Journalists) Freelance Directory. This will give you details of journalists by areas of specialism and also by where they live in the country.

It also has a useful guide to rates at the front of the guide.

Also holdthefrontpage.co.uk, and probably pressgazette.co.uk and journalism.co.uk
