View Full Version : Worth promoting VHS? Does anybody still buy videos?

Was wondering if anybody had an idea of percentage market share of VHS videos relative to DVDs.

Just spoke to one of my contacts at an online DVD and video store and he was telling me they might close down their VHS section which shocked me.

I'm still using videos - but then again I still prefer cassettes to CDs - never bothered getting a CD player :)

Is there any value in keeping up links to VHS videos?

I personally dont buy videos any more, always DVDs now as I dont think it will be much longer before thats all thats being sold.

Havent bought a Video for years - They just sit in the loft now. If I was getting into DVD I'd be concerened about pay-per-view and TV on demand.

I read in the Times in June that HMV are going to completly stop selling VHS by the end of the year but I think they have stopped already.

Blank media is different though I think there will be demand for that for the next five years.

You also have to bear in mind that many stores are no longer selling video recorders.

Yeah but many people still have them and want blank videos for them :) It will be a long time before all these are phased out.

As others have said - blank media will be arround for a while yet but with the ever increase number of digital receivers with a HD recorder built in (eg Sky+) and the rapidly falling price of DVD-r machines I wouldnt give them a massive shelf life.

A lot of places have stopped selling VHS either machines or cassests either formally or due to space constraints in stores - eventually there will be insufficient machines in circulation for it to be economical to provide for this medium in anything but specialist stores.

I didnt realise there were many places that still sold cassests - guess you dont rush out to buy the latest releases then!

If the car boot I go to is anything to go by,VHS is already dead! I can't get rid of my old ones, even at 30p each!
