Hi everyone, I am currently using Microsoft Frontpage. To optimize my web pages I know I need to put more keywords into my web page titles. Not sure how to do this is there anyone who will be able to help? Cheers, Amy.

I'm only just getting into seo but i think what you need to do is add to the meta tags in your code;

Need to add to:

<title>x-yz</title>
<META name="Description" content="x">
<META name="Keywords" content="x">
<META name="htdig-keywords" content="x">
<META name="copyright" content="x">

All of these places where you need to put keywords have to appear in as many places as possible... including content.

A good way of understanding how other sites do this is to type in a particular key phrase or word in a search engine, go to the top few websites in the results it produces and when viewing the websites home page click on View Source which allows you to see the page coding. In Internet Explorer, View is an option along the top of the browser and Source will be part of the drop down menu under View. You should see the coding as mrbusiness999 states. There are also many free tools online that can check your pages for this and advise on keyword density etc. http://www.seochat.com/ is a good place to start.

To change your title you just need to change the words in the title tag -
the bit between <title> and </title>

But where do i change the title tags and are they the same as meta tags?
Do i go back into front page to do this?

I'm not familiar with FrontPage myself, but yes you should be able to add and edit the title and metatags in it, a quick search on Google brought up this site (http://depts.washington.edu/trio/train/howto/site/design/insmeta.shtml)

I would have thought that there would also be a section within FrontPage help for adding these to your pages.

Effectively, title and meta tags are the same, though title has been allocated its own tag, whereas you have to specify the name of a meta tag. e.g. META NAME="description" CONTENT="You would type the description of the site in here."

Just adding to the advice that already has been given.

Defining meta-tags (title, description, keywords) is not that difficult, when you know how. But it is important to include the right words, in the right places. That is the skill.

There is not much point in investing in a web site if nobody can find it. Generating traffic is normally a combination of different efforts. Optimising meta-tags, submission to search engines and directories, pay per click, and conventional marketing. Oh, and hard graft as well!

It is possible to all the above on your own, but sometimes it saves a lot of time and effort getting expert help.

If all you want to do is change the title then in Frontpage when you click "save as" you just click the button that says "Change Title" above the filename on the save as box.
