Hello all,
I have decided to use Paypal for payment and to start with use oscommerce for the shopping script.
Now while starting to add products I noticed the payment modules, it has auto installed "Credit Card" now as I want to go though Paypal I should disable this right?
Also as my business does not earn 60k yet I do not have to charge VAT, so should I disable this feature on the website too or?
Thank you
P.S - I will add any other questions I have here.

Hello,
Yes, You should disable the credit card module if you are not intending to use it.
How about considering Nochex too (less chargeback fraud risk and much better customer service)

VAT
I think you should still be charging the VAT as I believe you will have to pay tax - I'm not qualified to comment on this though.
Good Luck

Ok I shall disable it thank you :)
I am currently talking to simon at NoChex about an account.
Also about shipping, what company would you all advise as I am not sure yet of whom to go with so I can provide postage costs.

On another note...
For currency's I tried GBP and it would not update or anything using the update feature.
Also the list of countries, as I only wish to supply ot the UK and also Europe is their a faster way to delete all the countries instead of doing them one at a time.
Thank you

VAT

You must not charge VAT if you are not VAT registered. Just because you have not hit the threshold where you MUST become VAT registered does not mean it is not worth becoming VAT registered - it depends on the nature of your business. Talk you your accountant. Also do a search on this forum for VAT as this has been discussed before.

Hello,
We also spoke to Nochex and received a rapid, concise and friendly response every time - whereas paypal didn't bother to answer.
For shipping we just use a flat rate of £5 per order or free over £100 to keep it simple.
You might get a good deal from a private courier firm.
I can also recommend DHL but they are not the cheapest.
If, further down the line you decide to accept credit / debit cards directly then I would suggest getting a quote from all the providers and then talk to HSBC last - they can usually beat most quotes.
To delete countries from your list.
It might be quicker to do it from 'phpmysql' (inside your webhosting package) or using a program such as 'mysqlfront' found here:
http://www.mysqlfront.de/
Alternatively there is an oscommerce contribution available to put Your favourite countries at the top of the drop down list.
For currencies
What are you trying to update?
For Tax
I do agree with Stuart - You would be best registering and of course having a chat with your accountant so as to save any avoidable future headaches.
Good Luck
Best regards
Gareth

I don't know if this is of any use to you but you can get pre-hacked oscommerce carts that have a number of extra modules already added that allow better functionality for both the site owner and visitor. I have such a version which you can view at www.bargain-sunglasses.co.uk. The details of the cart can be found at the bottom of each page.
