I just wondered what percentage of your waking hours are spent staring at a PC monitor?
I seem to spend an extraordinary amount of time. At the moment I'm doing a lot of research for my forthcoming business and most of it seems to be via the internet.
But aside from that I'm looking for a house so, again, it seems that 85% of the necessary work to do that is done on the pc. In fact it seems that most things involve alot of pc gazing.
Does anyone else find this or am I making the mistake of hiding behind the pc and perhaps in need of trying to find more of a balance between that and 'field' work.
Sometimes it really wipes me out physically. I find it hard to take a break every 20 minutes because I just get engrossed.
Several weeks back I actually found I couldn't face the thought of sitting down in front of it and logging on and this lasted for about 3 weeks until I just forced myself.
Does anyone relate to this?

I have my computer downstairs, I have it so I can watch TV, not far from the Kettle and the phone next to it, so I too am never really off it. As i've said before, it's like having your own library and shopping centre without leaving the house. Even my husband said I love my computer more than him, I say i'd rather be doing this, than sat infront of the TV all night as he does. The internet is fun and work all rolled into one. I think I may need professional help soon  I don't take breaks when I should, but if i'm tired I leave it alone for half an hour, works for me.

A lot of my time at the moment is spent in front of the PC but I'm cutting that down to be honest as it can become a little "too necessary" if you catch my drift. Can't be healthy surely!

The weird thing is even though I'm conscious of the amount of time spent on it I tend to cope with it by leaving what I'm mainly immersed in for just a few minutes and doing something different eg usually coming to this forum, or investigating something else on my mind but, as you have spotted, as I am still doing all these things on the pc it hardly counts as a real break!!
I think I need to watch it (or rather not watch it!) as I know that if I get too much of something I tend to start feeling desperate to escape it!
A good example is Ebay; I overdosed on that site so much I can't see the TV ads or even hear the name without feeling a little shudder and as for going on the site, well, I feel sticking pins in my eyes would be more bearable.
Weird!

I had the same problem with Teletubbies :D Now don't laugh, we made iced biscuits when the teletubby rage was in. It was that bad a saw them in my sleep, I hate teletubbies  I was that sick of making them, I went on teletubby strike and never made one again, still gives me prickles on my neck :D

Thankfully I haven't got one of those email alert thingies....or if I have I don't know about it and wouldn't know how to activate it.
After reading your post I think I will leave it that way!

Not bad exactly. But, let's face it, there are more exciting things to dream about!! :D

At least it's not as bad as some work....I used to have a job where I was on 24 hour standby, and every time I heard a phone ring - no matter where I was - I used to go into stress mode!! Even after I left it, this syndrome persisted for about 3 months afterwards :x

Definitely relate to that Tiggy.
I use a computer a lot in my work - when I'm not on the phone to clients. Are there other ways you can do your work without needing to use a PC - you mentioned you might be 'hiding' behind the PC.
I try to leave my PC in my office as it's too much of a temptation to take it downstairs and sit watching TV will responding to emails and postings and the evening just disappears. I also feel the need to take regular breaks throughout the day - if only for the trip downstairs for a drink or something to eat.
If you're getting physically tired - try to look at something in the distance at regular intervals, have a regular stretch and get outside for some fresh air. Even a short walk down to the postbox or the local shop is better than nothing.
I find my leg muscles tighten up from being seated all day. Make sure you've got a good adjustable chair and if you're being really kind to yourself - do some leg stretches.
