Looking for a new printer would like a laser colour that can also print pictures if needed. Also can you have separate cartages for colour and black in a laser printer?? Does anyone have any suggestions?

There used to be a couple of people on here that supplied printers and could give you good advice. havent seen them for a while though.

I you can get printers with seperate colour cartridges, many business printers are built this way.

perhaps you should try oem sites for information and specs eg HP and then try and source it through search engines. ebuyer.co.uk is one that I have found useful from time to time.

Maybe better with a high end Inkjet rather than laser? - the cost of consumables for colour lasers is high, as well as the cost for maintaining them.

Nooooooooo, please do not buy enterprise level IT hardware from Argos !!!!!!

1 - go branded for proven relaibility & quality e.g. HP, Epson, Canon, Brother etc
2 - Why a laser? check out high end inkjet (although colour laser finish is brill).
3 - Look at cost of consumables. Seperate black cartridge is great but what about 3 colours as well.
4 - How quickly is the first page out (don't want to wait for ever for it to warm up).
5 - Look at page per minute, specially if you are doing bulk runs
6 - Look at paper trays. How many & how big to save constantly refilling. 2 might mean one for plain and one for headed paper
7 - What about special stationery like printing envelopes, invoices etc
8 - Check connectivity, most are USB, ethernet means you can network it and share between PCs
9 - Warranty. Onsite is best, return to base is usually cheaper
10 - Just a printer? Many devices now scan, copy and fax as well.

PS thanks ..... just thought of another page for my site http://www.smallbizsoftware.co.uk 10 top tips for choosing a printer. (PS, help me out and click on the Amazon link from my site and check out their printer prices)

Hi Matthew

Office supplier called Viking Direct (WWW.Viking-Direct.co.uk) have a special on a HP PSC1610 all in one printer (printer/copier/scanner/fax) for £89.99 ?

It's not a laser printer but the make a big point of mentioning it's ohot printing capabilities in the blurb and at 18ppm for colour isn't bad.

I'm thinking of getting on myself !

I have found this printer that I like the spec on http://www.shopping.hp.com/webapp/shopping/product_detail.do?product_code=Q1319A%23ABA&tab=supplies&storeName=storefronts&landing=printers&category=laserjets_color&subcat1=mid_range&catLevel=2#defaultAnchor and I have found it at this price http://www.hardwarearea.com/product_info.php?products_id=407908&osCsid=3705d02cf87c8899ef0bd5d834696e59

It’s a bit strange as in the details it reads that it has two paper trays “100-sheet multipurpose tray, 250-sheet input tray” so does it have one tray or two?? It also has separate black and color cartridge’s now to get new ones each time will cost a bit but they will last a while as well. Does anyone know if these refill places do color refills for lasers printers and is there a difference in the quality??

Hi,

Check out WWW.VIKING-DIRECT.CO.UK, they have every sort of ink you can imagin. I have seperate ink cartridges in both my printers and they last quite a long time. I supose it depends how much you use them.

Hi Matthew i sell printers and cartridges. I would say no! don't buy a colour laser printer. They are more trouble than the are worth, they cost a fortune to run and maintain. I really do advise against getting one. If they breakdown you are looking at a big repair bill, whereas if you just get a high end Inkjet printer you can just replace it. They cost much less to run even if you are planning on printing large quantities. Even photographs. Again it does depend on where you get your cartridges. Give me a shout e-mail or msn, or skype and i will be glad to help you a little more.
