Hi, My name is caroline and I teach swimming to children aged 3 years and above. I started a small swim school 2 years ago with myself and another swimming teacher and 25 pupils, we have now grown to 150 pupils and 7 teachers over 2.5 hours a week. I also have 30 private 1-2-1 lessons a week and a waiting list growing every day and all through word of mouth :D. If any one on here knows of any free pool time in Northern Ireland or goes to a club or gym that have a swimming pool and no swimming lessons please let me know. Any how nice to meet you all and hopefully get to speak to some of you

Hello Caroline,
Swimming is such an important skill to learn for both safety and confidence building. I take my 3 year old (3 coming on 13) swimming "almost" every week. Its great time for the two of us to spend together, plus it gives her confidence in the water. I do plan to take her to swimming classing in the next year or two, but she just seems too young to understand being taught just yet.

Welcome to the forums, and I hope some people on here are able to introduce you to any swimming pool venues in your area.

Hi Jayne,
I think I have the best job in the world. 100% job satisfaction. Nothing can compete with the look on a childs face when they realise they can float and swim all on their own.
Richard,
3's not too young, if you have her in the right class. Our teachers are in the water with the children and we have the luxury of hiring a swimming pool with a movable floor and can have the depth to 0.6 so the children can stand and move around the pool with confidence. No armbands, no rings. It is said that humans learn more in the first five years of their life than they will do at any other time.

Hello and welcome to the forum.

I have to say that I hate swimming and only like to take a dip if it is too hot around the pool, however, since having Sophie (2), I now go every week.

Richard, it is never to early to put them in the pool and Sophie has had 'lessons' since she was 3 months old. We start with the singing and gradually add more structured swimming techniques and going under water etc. I started her this early as the class we go to, teachs survival, so that if she fell in to a pond, pool, etc. she would hopefully get to the edge on instinct.

Kate :D
