as follow up to my previous note( see business advise needed) I have certainly narrowed down to 2 ideas. Beqaring in mind these are not things I have done before, however looking to get out and do something extra of my own. My experience is a Sales Management background, Business to Business.

1 Hiring out Chocolate & champagne fountains
2 Cleaning & maintenance of graves in local area

The first one is an idea I think it is something fun, sweet and quite a few opportunities out there. Ideal as something the Wife could front and deal with for Weddings, birthdays, parties etc.

The second one is certainly something I haven't seen anyone do except local councils. It is playing on guilt but the job would be quiet, in my own time and really I could drive it the way i wanted. Very little set up cost.

Obviously marketing it would be tricky. Perhaps you could advise on ways to market these.

What are chocolate fountains? Never heard of anyone having them up here.

Sounds like a short fad to me the choc' fountain, bit like fondue sets. Maybe you could do other wedding things too, like favours, wedding gifts or even go into the catering rental as well (ie. plates, fancy trays, glasses). I used to ice wedding cakes and the stands are £15 upwards to rent out. Most people rent these for weddings, the stands can come to 100's of pounds to buy and you only need them for one day. I think there is more money in weddings than cleaning graves. Lets face it, marrage doesn't last that long in many cases, so you may get repeat customers :D

Just ask if you want any wedding info :D

Herbie,
One of the key factor to running a successful business is having a PASSION for what you good. Ask yourself which of these two ideas would you be most passionate about and therefore put most of your energy into, and that will lead you to your choice.

Hi!

Just to let you about chocolate fountains; I really don't think that they are a short fad.

The reason I say this is I used to work for the Prudential and they were always ordering these for big, glamorous bashes, I'm talking a good three years ago and upto the present day.

Just remember, though - no double dipping!!!

I read a book once (honest!) and it said if you can't decide which of your passions to follow you should combine them.

This gives rise to some very interesting scenarios re grave maintainance and chocolate fountains.

Shooting off at a slightly different angle again, you could encourage funeral caterers to offer mourners the option of a chocolate fountain at the wake. Makes a change from ham and pickle sandwiches.

At my funeral I would like a chocolate fountain in one corner, a champagne fountain in the other and a 'foods of the world' hot buffet table in the middle.

I will be gutted to miss it myself though.
