I recently posted that I'd made a small mistake and posted out an item to an eBay customer who had used a Paypal eCheque to make payment and it hadn't cleared.

Not something I usually do but in this instance it looked like I'd been unlucky because the day it was posted in error, I got an email from Paypal stating that the eCheque had failed to clear and not to post...

Doh!

So, I chalked it up to experience and opted to send a polite message to the buyer stating that they would have received the item, payment had failed to clear and I would appreciate it if they would honour the deal and make payment some other way. I figured I'd hear nothing and they'd go off chuckling merrily to themselves.

.. imagine my surprise when an hour ago I get a Paypal payment notification stating that the buyer had made an instant payment and cleared the outstanding debt.

Talk about a shock to the system...

Anyway, there you go... Thought perhaps it might be worth adding a positive experience to the slew of negatives that get posted regularly... :)

It's like the news: We only ever hear the bad news, rarely the good. I'm glad to learn the buyer was honest, but I would hope a majority of buyers would do the same.

Thats good news.... I do tend to think that the vast majority of people are actually good and honest (MP's notwithstanding of course).....its always the few bad apples that ruin it for everyone else....as with the rest of life I suppose :)

Goods news nevertheless!

Always worth trying, I've had twelve clawbacks and failed payments in the last month, I have managed to get 11 paid on the second attempt, plus positive responses from the clients.

It seems even with the recession there are still many people buying whilst overdrawn, I had one womans banks recind payment because she was 10p short in her account, she even sent the scans to prove she was genuine, not asked for BTW.

I have sent out several orders payed by echeque straight away and all of them have been cleared in the end, most people paying by echeque are sat at home scratching their heads and wondering why it hasnt worked the way it does for their mates. I know when i first set up a paypal account that happened to me until somebody I was buying off called me and explained about secondary funding sources.

We seem to be getting more and more problems with e-cheques, some are failing after a week or so, some are failing after they originally cleared which is even more annoying!

good to see some good news, many buyers seem to think its their right to dispute stuff and esculate paypal claims when they did genuinely receive goods.

I think most people are honest, not all though, and like an earlier posting said "We only ever hear about the bad stuff, never the good"
Red tape is a big problem and most of it is caused by companies themselves. Why do we make everything so much harder for each other?
I remember the birth of the computer and the buzz word that everything would become much easier now. How wrong they were. It just gave the jobsworths more power to foook things up and create more red tape.
On the subject of Mps. I am sure that they think it stands for Money pot and not member of parliment.
How come I do the teeniest thing wrong and get hung, drawn and quartered yet they can pilfer hundreds of thousands of pounds and then say they forgot? Oh yeh, and I forgot that that customer paid me in cash. Sorry ocifer.
I am sure that if I said " I forgot" to the Inland Revenue they would understand... Not.
Rant over.

Cheers all...

I have to admit I really thought I'd be dropped as the package would have arrived around the time the time the payment was refused. Cynicism made me think he'd cancelled it but, on reflection, I figure Paypal take forever to pass that sort of information on so it's unlikely.

Either way, all good in the end...

Most people are honest, but ou have to watch out for those who will try and abuse the system. eBays new feedback system is terrible though. Sellers can no longer leave negative feedback for a buyer!
i really don't understand that! it gives buyers power and control over the sellers in a way, really annoyed me when i found out

I have been blackmailed into leaving positive feedback before the seller would issue a refund, loads of sellers were doing this and had control over the buyer in a way. The new feedback system ensures sellers try their very best to resolve disputes, i think it is for the best and i'm a seller saying that.

Had the same thing happen for a £400 payment apparently his bank had decided not to honour the original cheque.:|

The guy sent instant Paypal payment when we contacted him.

So there is at least one honest Scotsman.:)

Not sure about the English.?
