You'll need to ask your ISP for a Static IP Address. There will probably be a additional charge for this but this depends on your ISP.

It's likely to be in your network router setup, where it is used to distribute IP addresses upon request. You can change it to allocated a dedicated IP to your PC and any other, although it shouldn't make much difference as you can name each PC on your network to communicate as well. Suggest you google basic network setups and include your router name in the search

Which IP address? The internal allocated to your PC, or the external one of your broadband connection?

You could always use DynDNS (http://www.dyndns.com/services/dns/dyndns/) you install a small application on your computer and it keeps the dyndns website up to date with your latest IP address meaning you can then go ahead and do what you need to do as they will have the latest IP.

Dyndns is a good option,

It doesn't require a static IP, they give you a unique name that you use to remote desktop instead (like myhome.dyndns.org)

Have you considered using a different remote desktop client?

There is a free service provided by a company called Logmein, where you install an application on your pc, then you can login to thier website and access your computer from anywhere, it doesn't matter if your IP changes daily. Or even if the PC was in different place. As long as its on and has an internet connection you will be able to connect to it.

Its also secure, using 256 bit encryption. We use it for corporate support (as well as other alternatives for different clients) but to just get access to your home pc, its by far the easiest option.

Hope this helps!
