Hello everybody,

I run a very small company in France that hasn't really started trading properly as yet. The company specialises in distributing innovative medical imaging devices in Europe (and later maybe our own medical products - but that's an unwritten chapter).

For various reasons to do with VAT claims and customs importation issues, I may be forced to set up a subsidiary UK Ltd company sooner than planned and I was wondering how long it takes to get a UK VAT number. Any relevant info on delays appreciated.

Cheers.

David.

The process tends to take between 2-3 weeks providing all the information is submitted on the application and they are happy with it.

I have come across several instances where they have asked for additional information when the UK limited company has non-UK residents as the sole director but this is not very often.

If you require a new company or any other help, please do not hesitate to drop me a line.

HMRC quote 15 working days for registration and this is possible providing there is no problem or query with the submitted documentation. Should they wish to get further information strangely enough it can take 15 + working days to ask for it and then it has been known to take up to six weeks.
