Does anyone know if such software exists? Just looking to send out an irregular newsletter to clients etc.
Ideally I'd like a programme where I can upload the addresses and send the mailing from there.

Groupmail (http://www.group-mail.com/asp/common/default.asp) - It's free for a mailing list of up to 100, after that, you need to buy the professional edition. Seriously though, quality software like this, you really have to be prepared to shell out a little cash. You can try and run a business on free software, but at the end of the day, you'll spend more time looking for the software, or finding ways to work around things the software won't do, that using it will cost you more than buying the equivalent paid for software.

Email Marketing Pro from emailmarketingprofessional.com is a really nice and simple product that is free. It also fully manages the mailing list giving your targets the option to opt out.
