:D Hi - I have just stumbled upon this site and have found it fascinating reading. We bought this Hotel in Blackpool last year - our first business and after 3 months of bringing it into this century and banishing all floral carpets, doilies and other hideous items we are having a fabulous time!
I am hoping to gain some tips on setting up an internet company as I have some ideas to keep me busy once the illuminations finish and we shut the Hotel in November.
I presume I am the only one unfortunate enough to still be awake a this ridiculous time - thanks to my nocturnal 21 month old :(
Ah.... he sleeps.... I will see you all in a few hours time

Ah the swirly floral carpets!, the dusty, musty curtains, the cracked lino, the pungent loos, the sticky HP sauce bottles on a stained tablecloth ...I shall miss them all!
Your hotel looks fresh and inviting - good luck to you!

Hi Bubblerock and welcome.
Your hotel certainly doesnt look like the hotels I remember from my youth, strangely enough just as twokids described it (Was it the same hotel or were they all like that???) :D

There are a lot still like that!! The frilly curtains we took out of this place could stand up on their own

I went to BlackPool for a stag do a few months back. The most bizzare place I've ever been to, and I live in Brighton!

Welcome Bubblerock,
Blackpool's great! I met some Germans on holiday two years since and they had never heard of blackpool. I told them they hadn't lived until they had been there! You'll have to advertise on the German web sites, they can bring back the beer keller then
Best Wishes

Hi Bubblerock
The hotels you speak of can also be remembered for their nylon sheets. Ugh! If you got into bed with even a tiny amount of nylon in your nightwear, the static electricity could light up your bedroom!
Welcome to the forum.

Hi Friend, Well im from sunny Blackpool, I live nr Bispham. Nice to see you have a hotel in Blackpool, dont know about the sunny bit though!!.
I had girlfriend once who had an auntie who owned a hotel on hull rd, down nr the mac donalds end, the name of hotel has changed since as it was about 6 yrs ago now. Where is your hotel?
Now to the business part -
Im just about to join my friends new limited comapny, based in bispham to help him out and hopefully become a valued figure in the company and become a shareholder. It has come to a time now where he needs me as business is "booming". The company installs/maintains light, sound and DJ equipment, we do almost anything to from plasma/video/music installations and again maintenance.
We can here help each other out by in means that on our travles around the North of england we could give out your hotel brochure and invite our clients for a weekend break to Blackpool, especially for your winter quiter months, with of course discounted rates to our clients.
We would like to expand our company into the hotelier business too, and you could be one of the first for us to maintain any light/sound equipment you have. We have a load of T.V 26" I think they are and lighting/sound equipment. There second hand but in good cond, if you need some for your hotel rooms or no anybody who does!!
I myself am in the I.T world at the present and may help you with your Interent decisions. We hopefully in the company in the future to bring in Wireless neworks and security solutions, again you could benefit here too.
Well hope to here from you soon and we can carry on this ideal business opportunity to help us BOTH!!
Regards, hoping to become good freinds in business

Thanks for the lovely welcome to the site and the business stuff GSalmon - our Hotel is only small (Palatine Road) we don't do entertainment etc.. as we find most of our guests want to go out in Blackpool - we don't see much of our guests at all!
I'm originally from Gloucestershire and only moved up here last year when we bought the Hotel so I don't really know anyone up here (billy nomates!) so I'm not even a good source for making contacts! The BHGHA (Hotel association) website could be a good way of advertising.
It's very nice to meet you all though!! (not sure where my smilies have gone?? :-} )

Hi everyone - I'm back!! I can't believe I haven't been on here for almost a year, to be honest, I totally forgot about the site but I have bookmarked it now.
Here's an update from me - The Hotel is now for sale as we have found it very hard to run with young children, but would definately do it again once semi retired! So we are now looking at other ventures as we still want to be self employed and hopefully stay in Blackpool. I do have quite an exciting idea but whether it will turn into anything I don't know.
Last time I was here I was messing about with website ideas and I did create a couple although I haven't actually completed them so they are sat waiting to make me millions when I get motivated to do them. The problem I have is that I can come up with ideas but not follow them through - but as I have already been told, you can't sell an idea on it's own unfortunately.
Anyway, hopefully I will be around a bit more picking your wonderful brains - I hope everyone is doing brilliantly!! :)

Hi Guys!! :) It's boiling here today - bloody tourists everywhere! ;) LOL
Hey Paul - do you do flying bears too? I have a complimentary flying bear on the shelf in the bar - he's really cute but we're not big enough to do stuff like that unfortunately. I will be taking him with me when we leave though (we've sold the hotel - if it all goes through ok)

Hi,
Yes that's one of our Bears. A lot of the Blackpool Hoteliers sell them as souvenirs and they act as great traffic drivers to our shop. I should be over in Blackpool soon so perhaps we could meet up
best

Isn't Blackpool now the 'new Brighton' of the north?
Only stayed there twice in my whole life.
The nets just sound like the one I stayed in when I was a kid in the 60's.
Do they still have that annoying laughing thing on the pleasure beach?

Or is Brighton the 'new Blackpool' of the South?
Or is Brighton Brighton and Blackpool Blackpool and everyone's as 'appy as the Laughing Clown?
Good Luck with the Hotel Venture it must be a competitive market and I hope the Blackpool 'vision' you read about comes true (Casinos etc.)

Be aware the competion for internet companies in the Blackpool area is intense although I am sure you are aware of that and probably get bombarded by companies trying to sell web sites to hotel owners?
Good luck
