I know this is probably on the internet somewhere, but I've had a look and haven't got time to spend that long searching, so I am hoping someone will be kindly enough to tell me the answer... :D (Pretty please?)
Basically I want Outlook (version 2000) to ask me which email account I want to send an email from every time I send an email.
I've got email accounts set up for clients and it's getting embarrassing when their customers get emails supposedly from our client but it goes to them with ...@bananaoffice.co.uk.
So rather than us having to remember to change the address every time, is there a setting where when we press "Send" Outlook will ask which address which want to send the email from?

All versions after 2000 came with this option on the mail editor so it was quick and easy to swtich, but before that you had to dig much deeper into the settings... Try look in Tools > Options > Delivery.
Ideally I'd say upgrade... 2000 is nearly a decade old, which is a lifetime in IT.

I don't know how to do as you asked above, but you could set your e-mail account as the default and then select the others as you need to.
To do this, you go to: tools > account settings
then click on the e-mail you want to set as default, and click the "set as default" button up the top :)

Yes, I know how to select "as and when required" but when you're in a hurry, it's very easy just to press send and forget to change the email address.
What I want is for Outlook to pop up and ask me which address I want to send from.
Ideally I'd say upgrade... 2000 is nearly a decade old, which is a lifetime in IT.
Why upgrade when the current stuff suits me (except for this one thing)?

Or use thunderbird. Every message you write comes with a drop down box so you can select from whom you send.

But I want it to remind me to check which address. If we have to do it ourselves it's all too easy to forget.

It's not possible. If you can't remember to change the acct when you send
new mail (outlook should use the incoming account for replies) then use
separate profiles. Displaying the From field may make it easier for you -
and if you have a habit of realizing you forgot to change it right after you
hit Send, create a rule to delay sending mail for a few minutes so you can
go in an change it.
Setting a visibly different signature for each account may also help. When
word is the editor, changing accounts changes the signature to match the
account.

I don't think Outlook will provide this natively. There's a product called Outlook Split Personality which looks like it will provide what you're looking for - but it's only compatible with XP/2003/2007 - not 2000 as you've stated. Info: http://www.outlooksplitpersonality.com/features.html
Another option would be to set your default account to a dummy with invalid server details - then if you forget the e-mail won't go anywhere until you open it back up and correct things.

Oh well, just going to have to take more time and check.

Because the next edition will suit you even better as it includes amongst other features - this one thing... :) (Or should I say it enables you to do this, rather than a "prompting feature")
