View Full Version : An Introduction to Personal Software

I formed Personal Software in March 2003 to pursue my interest in “behavioural” software – products that influence how people interact with each other and live their lives.

Cortege® is the first result of this interest; capturing over twenty years experience of business and personal networking. Having spent all my professional life designing software, I thought it was time to create an accessory that provided the networking disciplines so many people write about these days - rather than writing about them again myself.

Cortege® is designed to help people manage their business and social networks. It runs along-side Outlook or Outlook Express, and uses Outlook's Contacts folder (or the Windows Address Book) to enable you to build a graphical model of your network. This model incorporates features and tools that help you evaluate, track and manage your relationships.

Before Personal Software, I was on the Board of Recognition Systems plc as CTO. We were vendors of CRM software and had been growing strongly (especially in the US), however, our fortunes were very badly hit by the .com crash and our stock plummeted from over 700p to under 5p in less than three months.

Being a director of a plc is interesting enough in normal circumstances, but this was something else. Still – on a lighter note – we even made it into the “business” section of the Sun newspaper under the heading TECH WRECK! (I still have the clippings). Anyone who has gone through something similar will know it’s not quite so funny at the time…

I spent seven years at Dow Jones Markets designing software for financial traders. The trading room is where technology and greed come together, resulting in a very dynamic (and demanding) environment. I was lucky enough to win three awards for my software products during this time (including Best of Breed at COMDEX), and even boasted Alan Greenspan as a very satisfied customer.
