Hi guys,

My name is Peter Hall. I'm 25 and from Portsmouth. I'm am actually employed as an accountant, but have started running my own business part time, as this will enable to generate an extra income stream. The business model means that I get paid residual income on all the work I do in my business (ie. I get paid every month for the rest of my life for every sale that I or one of my team makes).


The concept is that I help people to save money and make money. I help people to save money by showing them how to reduce their utility bills. The average saving is over £400, and all services (being gas, electricity, home telephone, internet and mobile phone) are displayed on ONE fully itemised bill. A business tariff has also just been launched incoroprating the same concepts.

I then show other people how to make money by introducing other people to this way of saving money.

From this forum, I am looking to find new ideas, and perhaps new contacts, and to help people with any accountancy queries people may have with their business (if I can!). I may even be able to show a few of you how to make or save money!

Interesting that an accountant would get involved in a mlm/pyramid scheme!

I hope you find some good tips here for growing your business, if you need any help then post away - theres usually someone who can help!

I think I would have to agree that it is odd to find an accountant in pyramid marketing or referral marketing(sorry).

This type of selling very rarely makes much money but I wish you all the best in your efforts.

Thanks for the welcome. I know there is a lot of people who are sceptical about network marketing, and there are some mlm programs which are purely schemes. However as a concept it works. If you find the right company it can be a good way to make an extra income.

The company I am involved with is TelecomPlus - The Utility Warehouse Discount Club. TelecomPlus is a PLC listed on London Stock Exchange. It has been nominated for company of the year, and per the European Business Magazine, it is the fastest growing company in Europe!

The Utility Warehouse significantly reduce domestic and business customers utility bills. For every customer I introduce I get paid a % of their bills, every month. If one month I do nothing at all, I will still get paid a % of those customer's bills (a bit like royalties for authors). I also get paid a very small % of the bills of my team's group customers.

The company have turnover of £102M, which represents only 1% of the market. It is anticipated that turnover will grow to £1 billion within 5 years. This is all to be acheived solely by network marketing, so there is an opportunity there for a lot of people to make a lot of money.

The reason that many people do not make a lot of money with network marketing is because they give up too easily. The hardest time is the 1st 6 months, were most people are learning what to do. It is also the time when most people drop out. A business opportunity is just that - it is an opportunity. To make it work you have to apply the effort and realise that you will not make a fortune overnight. I treat it as a 5 year plan to financial freedom.

Sorry Pete I have to disagree.

You say the turnover of the company is $102 million - great!

Can you tell me the average amount that your agents earn? Surely that is the important point here. Tescos made £9bn profit but the shelf stackers get £3.70 an hour.

Also the main reason people fail in mlm is they give up - isn't that like saying that the main reason people die is that they stop living?

I am not targeting your company - it may well be the exception - but the main reason for failure in the mlms is that - the product is carp and nobody wants to buy it! Once you have sold it to your mum, gran and best mate you begin to find that there is resistance to buying it and the only sales tool you have is making close friends and family guilty if they don't sign up.


As I say Telecom Plus may be different - I guess I would advise becoming a customer first for 6 months - if you are happy with them you can then decide whether you want to risk going into business with them.

We built a ‘referral marketing’ function into webit.net. When you’re logged in you can send an email through us to your suppliers, customers, friends inviting them to join Webit. If they do so both the referrer and the referee listings are placed higher on the listings pages for a promotional period. And it works very well.

That sounds like a good idea, I am not condeming every 'Referal' based scheme - just those that promise a lifetime income on the back of dodgy products .

Where the product is good, and you are refering something that really is worth the money ( and not just something that you stand to make a quick buck on ) then it is a wonderful way for everyone to gain, customer, supplier and prospect.

Two kids (Jim), in reply to your post, agents incomes depend upon the number of customers their introduce either directly or indirectly, and based on the volume of those customers expenditure. I would estimate that the average income for a personal customer is perhaps £2 per month, and maybe 25p per month for a customer introduced by a group member. Doesn't sound a lot but if over 5 years, you obtain just 1 customer a week, then based on those numbers provided you would earn an extra £520 per month even if you did nothing thereafter.

Obviously these numbers can vary depending upon the number of services the customer takes out and their useage. We have now also just introduced a business tariff. Obviously if you have a few businesses in your portfolio that will help your earnings rise more quickly.

The benefit is that if you want to work this to earn a few extra pounds you can as I have shown above. You don't have to build a team if you don't want, and there are no targets.

But for those who want to give it a real go, the opportunity is there to earn an income sufficient to generate time freedom, either by personally introducing lots of customers, building a team, or more practically, a bit of both.

Once it is built to an income level that I would be happy with, I can leave my full time job, and have the freedom to do whatever I like for the rest of my life. I will have no pension worries as the residual income will keep getting paid to me.

The difficult bit is building it up. I won't pretend that it is easy to finish work and then try to build a business. But if working an extra 7-10 hours per week on my business can build an income that will enable me to retire at 30 (and not 75), without any pension worries, then in my mind that is worthwhile. If your boss said to you if you work an hour a day overtime for free for 5 years, you can leave your job on your current salary, would you do it? It sounds good - the trouble is too many people want easy money (and there isn't such a thing). Like every other business, if it was easy everyone would do it. But it does provide the opportunity for individuals from all backgrounds to generate a decent quality of life for themselves by investing some time now. Many people see the opportunity, but opportunities are only opportunities. To turn them into success, work is required, and when it comes to the crunch, many people aren't prepared to commit to the work necessary to get to that point.

In terms of the company, I don't think supplying the whole range of utility services for both residential and business customers is a token product -do you? Many of our distributors actually come from the customer base as the services are so good. Just out of interest, had you heard of Telecom Plus (The Utility Warehouse Discount Club) before I entered this forum?
