Hi
Hope I can find a little advice here.
I am currently employed as Customer Services Manager for a Worldwide Large Format Digital Print Company.
Last week I was pleased to be offered a promotion to Director.
I have an informal meeting this Friday to discuss. I also already know that it will come into effect end of December this year (should I decide to accept).
My question to you is;
What would you want to know/ask?
I have viewed various websites that outline a Directors role but am finding them a little hard to understand tbh.
Any help will be appreciated
Many thanks

Positioning is key.
1: Directors implement strategies to meet the business objectives (that is provided by the MD)
2: As a manager / director it your job to make your teams life as easy as possible for them to achieve the goals you have provided to meet your strategy i.e. apart from the strategy bit the higher you go the big skivi you become.
So because you will know the company objective you will know what your departments is( if not ask). Explain how you will meet those objectives.
What areas do you thing Customer Services is strong in?
as above weak in?
How will you improve those weaknesses?
What is your preferred management style?

Thanks for the reply.
I think I have been a little hasty on my first post. I will have the informal chat and then update with whatever information I can find out.
As it stands, although a large company, the UK branch is still in its infancy (2 years in) and is still at the growing stage (financially stable).
I joined 6 months ago and have been improving our Clients trust etc as well as generating a fair few new ones along the way.
What im trying to get at is that at the moment I will not be Directing anyone as it stands (I do have overall say in Production but no staff to manage as such)... :? I have a feeling the promotion could well be in preparation for the purchasing of other companies - would that be justifiable/a possibility?
As I say, maybe I should have posted AFTER Friday :)

Hi TW,
At the risk of sounding callous, I believe that a person who is offered a director's role would already have all the answers!
Convey in words what you've already been putting into practice!!
Cheers, Nigel

Nigel.
You are of course right!
I think your comment outlines one of my main concerns - I feel un-ready and un-prepared. At only 28 and with only 2 years management experience under my belt (7months of which in current position) I feel a little fast-tracked. I am obviously doing a good job and always have the company's best interests in mind with whatever I am doing.
Ultimately I feel I am not ready for this transition but do not dare decline the offer...
Many thanks again for all comments so far.

I'm a new boy on the Forum and your posting reminded me of my own elevation to Director status years ago.
I always remember this saying which has been very useful:
Management is about doing things right. Leadership is about doing the right things.
Congratulations!

Hello again TW.
One further point, on a more negative side: the buck will stop with you - directors are rarely demoted - they're out the door! Be sure in your own mind that you can fill the bill, or, try for a 'step down' clause in Friday's meeting.
Cheers, Nigel
