I have been reading a few posts on here and have seen people reccommending PR stories for local papers as a marketing technique!!

How would we go about doing this??

Is there any sites that give you an online guide etc??

Thanks

For SEO pruposes Pr stories in your local newspaper are not much use unless they have a website. Here is a guide hope it helps.

Hi Andy

PR is a very effective marketing tool to use, with many companies seeing fantastic results.

Basically, the premise is that you are getting articles, case studies, press releases etc published in either local/regional/national newspapers, trade magazines or other publications and are used as a vehicle to promote your company. It could be a new contract won, a new facility, something that benefits the community.

The beauty of this is that it gives a third party opinion (i.e. that of the Editors) that your company is wonderful. The main problem around traditional advertising is that the reader clearly knows it is you blowing your own trumpet, however with PR it is not so obvious.

If you are looking at giving it a go, then check out our Ultimedia Blog (http://ultipr.blogspot.com/2009/05/why-is-editors-delete-key-so-worn-down.html) for some useful hints 'n' tips to avoid the usual errors.

Alternatively, Ultimedia (http://www.ukbusinessforums.co.uk/forums/www.ultimediapr.co.uk) have lots of options available should you want to look into getting professional assistance with your PR, as well of tons of experience.

If you have a single news story already and want to get it out, then the Low Cost PR (http://www.ukbusinessforums.co.uk/forums/www.lowcostpr.co.uk)side will be the best thing to try.

Either way, it is a very effective way of getting your name and your reputation out to your public.

Local Newspapers would get you publicity but not the coveted links which most probably you were looking for. You may try out some online press releases websites which allow you to announce changes to your website and help you get a link as well. However, if your business is anything about local people, getting a review from a local newspaper would be helpful. You may get some help from local yellow pages listing.
