Hi, I have decided to go with Magento for my website. My next confusion is which payment extension to use from the various extensions available with Magento. I am a start up and I am going to open a business banking account shortly. What payment options should I offer my customers? Apologies if this sounds naive.

PayPal is a popular choice for online stores.

Won't hurt to provide more than one option so PayPal, NoChex, Merchant Account, Cheque, Bank Transfer.

We are in the process of switching to SagePay (formerly Protx) and a Bank of Scotland merchant account (available via SagePay with no setup fees).

I think there is a SagePay addon available for Magento?

SagePay is available for Magento. Would you have an idea whether a start-up can apply for a BoS merchant account or is a trading history required for the same?

Depends, usually you wont have a problem as a start up.

A previous business I owned had an issue with Streamline however, one of the company directors (We were Ltd and a start-up) had a default from Virgin Media for £10 on their personal credit file and Streamline refused to give our company a merchant account simply because of that.

Luckily the default was issued in error and was removed by VM, then we were given a merchant account without any further problems. I thought that was quite strict personally. I guess each bank has its own criteria.

As for Bank of Scotland, I have no idea how strict they are, we only sent off our application form for our current business on Friday so I guess I will find out soon enough if they like new businesses :)

Perhaps you could give SagePay a call on 0845 111 4455 and ask them for advice, I am sure they would know the acceptance criteria of BoS giving how closely they seem to be working with them.

Hi there

If you’re integrating with Magento there is a payment module available from Deeson eMedia for PayPoint.net. You can find out about it at
(3ws)deeson.co.uk/emedia/open-source/magento-paypoint

We process all the major card schemes, as well as PayPal and our own online cash payments, PayCash, through all of our payment gateways packages. At the moment, all of our payment gateway packages are 50% off monthly fees for the first three months. You can find out about them at
(3ws)paypoint.net/solutions/payment-gateway/

If you have any problems getting an Internet Merchant Account with any of the high street banks, our Fast Track package bundles an Internet Merchant Account with our payment gateway. Because we underwrite the risk ourselves, we can get you competitive rates with any of our banking partners.

We have a number of guides on our website on how to get started in ecommerce. You can find them at (3ws)paypoint.net/online-payment-guides

Our tech support team will also be more than happy to talk you through your integration. Feel free to get in contact if we can help you with anything.

The best of luck for your business!

yes Protx / Sagepay

You have the choice of the Form system (where the user gets redirected to the Sagepay site) or Direct (where the card details are actually entered on your site)
