I'm using the UKBF a lot today!

On top of my rent worries my Norton Antivirus is telling me I am being attacked by a Trojan - this has been going on for 2 days.

Since Norton tells me that the attcking address is 81.133.241.126 and 81.133.241.63 - is there anything I can do to block/report/send this address a nasty shock etc?

I do I have to sit there knowing that there is a pc at this address who's trying to break in to my pc???

Any help gratefully recieved!

Jim - is it saying you have a trojan infection? Thats bad.

If it's just an attempt to access your pc and Norton has blocked it then thats good.

Hi Rob - just a attempted attack thank goodness...

I just want to get back at them and stop the attacking if I can ( I'd like to give them a piece of my mind too!)

I had my firewall set to redirect attempted hacks to www.fbi.gov

Hack attempts are usually a robot so it does little good apart from make you feel as if you've beaten them :)

If you're still looking to do something then I recommend switching from Norton to Zonealarm Security Suite - it's lighter on your machine and makes you 'invisible' to most hackers etc

Thanks Rob

Sounds good - my Norton is expiring soon anyway so I'll have a look at zonealarm

A handy site for checking your online port status and your firewall is

The problem with software like norton is that it tells you everytime someone tries to 'attack' your machine, causing you to worry for no reason.

As long as they're not getting in to your machine it's nothing to worry about. No one is targetting you personally, 99 times out of a 100 it's scannign software looking for vulnerable targets.

The IP address appears to be a BT Open world user. If you wanted to report it you can do to abuse@btopenworld.com (include time, date, ip and logs) but if you did this everytime there was an attempted intrusion to your computer you'd have no time to do anything else.

As long as it's not costing you any resource then ignore it. Its part and parcel of the internet. Use GRC though to make sure your machine is not attempting to reply to any requests such as ping (IMCP) as this will have a cost to your CPU.

The problem with software like norton is that it tells you everytime someone tries to 'attack' your machine.

You can understand why they flag these attempts though. It's great marketing for them: "Look how well our software is working!"

Surely you can switch the alerts off?
