Dear All, I have received a quote of £700 for a bespoke, high end e-com website. Turnaround time 3 weeks. Features of the package include free domain name, 12 month free hosting, logo and website design, search engine optimisation and submission. Would appreciate comments / feedback on the cost of the package and features. Thank you.

Depending what else you need this to do then it could be alright, but I think it is a bit on the cheap side. Some questions you should be asking.

1. Can you Add/Edit/Delete Products?
2. Can you alter the Tax Rate when required?
3. How are you products held (which Database)?

Also ask for some references from the company building it so you can contact there customers and see what they have to say about the company, or you could even do a search on google for them and check them out that way.

Hope this helps.

Cheers
Dave

Sounds very cheap for 'high-end'. I'd expect as much as another nought for that.

I went on a Business Link seminar on websites/e-com and they said a good rule of thumb was to invest 10% of your expected annual turnover in your website development.

Is this a duplicate thread?

Any way this is what I said on the other thread:

Is that £700 a month?

Think about how long it takes someone to code a ecommerce system from a blank page. It should take over three months not 3 weeks!

What they are probably offering is a custom theme on an opensource system.

That is very cheap for a bespoke "high end" ecommerce website. I would check exactly what they are offering you.

Just a Bespoke website design (No coding just the graphic and not including a logo) would cost at least 50% of the amount quoted on it's own.

I suspect what they are offering you is a pre-coded template, with a simple text logo added and using a pre-coded ecommerce app so you wont have any say in its functionality, likely it will be a hosted service so you wont be able to take the site with you it has to stay on their server (Basically your paying them for nothing tangible just a service).

Any ecommerce website that you can take away with you and has a bespoke design (Even if it is using an off the shelf app like Magento or god forbid osCommerce) would cost at least 3 or 4 times what you have been quoted and that's without any Logo, domain, hosting etc etc included.

If it sounds to good to be true.... well you know the rest

Exactly. The price isn't realistic for what you think you are being offered.

They're offering you 2 days work. Enough said.
