I've been using oscommerce and although the interface was easy to use I found that it is a bit constricting in terms of design possibilities.
Has anyone migrated from oscommerce to something else? What has your experience been?
thanks
Laura

Although basically the same system - I am migrating an oscommerce store to Zen Cart which I feel has a much easier template system.
With a bit of work it is easy enough to make an osCommerce store look like it isn't an osCommerce store though
It may be worth looking at design options first, if you are happy with everything else osCommerce offers

Yeah it was more layout that bothered me to be honest!
I'm a graphic designer by trade and I'm NOT a web developer so trawling through all those .php files to change elements seems like a lot of hard work!
html and css are fine, but I'm used to being able to switch things around far easier!

Zen cart may be a good move - might also be worth looking at template system contributions for osc.
Or paying someone to do it for you
PM the site URL - I may have some specific suggestions

it's fairly straight forward to migrate OSC to Zen cart.
We've done it a few times.
PM for a few examples.

what's the purpose of going into an osc derivative? The thing is osc can be customized any way you want as long as you understand the framework. Not only there are ready addons to supply a template system (check the osc contributions) but you could easily modify the framework to accommodate a custom design exactly the way you want. That's my xp anyways.

CRELoaded is another osC derivative thats worth checking out

Magento is also well worth checking out

Laura, if you speak to Chris Pearce (C.Pearce) on here. He's set me up with ZenCart and custom layout. .. if you do the graphics im sure he can add them and make the layout work in code for you - Great guy and excellent pricing :)

there is a templating addon for OSC but to be honest its still very constraining - ZEN CART however does allow better templating.
Magneto has a great templating and design layout you may want to look into this as its got many great features that OSC could do with but without having to install tons of addons.

hey there LauraLil
We get plenty of clients moving across to Pearl once they have found that their OSCommerce system isn't doing what they need. If you can provide a full database dump from OSCommerce we'll migrate your data across to Pearl for free if you go for the Pearl Standard (http://www.thisispearl.com) option! We can also bring across all your product images :)
