I am using paypal pro with zencart but it has never worked 100% and I know that I am losing sales - some days 2 or 3 people call me saying they have been kicked off my site - this is bugging me now as not only am I losing the sale....these people will never have the confidence to come back.

I have looked into protx (sagepay) and worldpay. But they each have their downside. Worldpay hangs onto your money for 4 weeks and Protx needs a merchant account - I have a business account but I will be paying £20 to protx each month and also to the ecommerce merchant a monthly charge.

I'd like to give paypal one last chance before changing and wonder if anyone can help.

The problems initially were that it would not accept maestro or switch cards. I now have this sorted.
Now I am not sure what the problem is exactly but sometimes the full address is not copied over to delivery details although the account details have been set up by the customer properly.
I think the express checkout option is also causing a problem at times. I know that customers are sent round in circles and give up.

The girl who helps me with my website support is based in the US - she is great on everything else but just can't seem to get this right. I really need someone who is in the UK and has experience of paypal with zencart on UK accounts.

Any help would be really appreciated as this is driving me mad!

With PayPal's charges surely it would work out cheaper to get a merchant account and go with Sage Pay, i think sites that only accept PayPal appear amateurish.

Paypal Merchant Pro is very professional and the fees are not far out of line with other providers although if you shop around you can get a good deal. We are on 1.7% with paypal pro but have just secured 1.2% through "Streamline" (Worldpay) due to being members of the FSB.

One downside of the paypal system is it does not do address verification so you can be more open to scammers.

I used Paypal Pro two years ago and hated it, kept having problems, would never use it again. Don't they charge £20 a month too?

I use protx/SagePay now and kept the ''standard'' Paypal for those who have an account.

Most of my turnover comes through protx payments, about 25% of customers choose Paypal.
The transaction fees are much lower, for instance I only pay about 22p per debit card transaction and 1.59% for credit card.
Protx charge £0.10 per transaction (in my case) but that's cheaper than Paypal's £0.20p. AND you get the money within 3 days.

If you're a member of the FSB, as mentioned, you'll get the cheapest rates with Streamline.

Thanks for all the info......I would stay with paypal if it did not give me so many problems!

Worldpay looked okay but I hate the idea of them holding onto money for almost a month so I have decided to go with protx (sage pay) and I am just waiting for them to get my account up and running.

It will be interesting to see if there is any effect on sales ....I think I am losing a few every day due to paypal problems so, fingers crossed, there should be some improvement.

Hi,
I too have had problems with my Website Paypal Pro, but I was put in touch with the technicians themselves who have been amazing I have to say.

Paypal has many departments, and sometimes you get passed from pillar to post, but keep going, and ask if you can speak to a technician - I found them really helpful. You need to talk to a person - a machine is no good is it?

Give it a try & I hope it works well for you.
